Job Details

One of our fab vets is following her dream into the world of neurology, so we are looking for a like-minded person who shares our passion for patient care.

We started as a small first opinion practice 37 years ago and have grown to be the only hospital status practice in Sheffield, and remain proudly independent, providing the highest standard of care to all our patients, clients, and team. Donna and Carmel liked working at the practice so much that they bought it in 2007, and have since opened a branch practice in Hathersage, providing veterinary care in the Hope Valley and surrounding villages of the Peak District.

Our RCVS accredited hospital offers excellent facilities including digital and dental x-ray, ultrasound, video endoscopy and a fully equipped laboratory.  We also have critical care facilities, an isolation ward and provision for exotic species, as well as all of the equipment and services you would expect from a RCVS accredited hospital.

We want you to come to work and enjoy what you do and being part of a friendly, inclusive and supportive team goes a long way. We are a sociable bunch and enjoy getting together outside of work, whether it’s nights out enjoying the nightlife Sheffield has to offer or judging the village pet show, there is plenty for you to get involved in. There is also a long tradition of scarecrow making at the Hathersage Gala week, and Melanie, one of our nurses, lets her creative juices run wild each year with the annual scarecrow theme – we won 2nd place in the competition this year!

We are a close knit, dedicated team of 8 vets, 6 RVNs, 3 SVNs, 2 ACAs, 4 receptionists and office team. We are looking for a vet with some experience, or a confident new grad who is looking to develop their skills in a busy first opinion practice. We can offer you the chance to start your veterinary journey with an exciting and varied caseload whilst our team, led by our GDP Advisor, Carmel, will provide the mentoring and support you need to gain experience and spread your wings.

Park Veterinary Hospital reception

We believe in encouraging career progression, so if you are looking to undertake a certificate or have an area of special interest, we will fully support you in achieving your goals. Our team of vets can offer the 'Full Monty' of expertise - Carmel is a small animal Advanced Practitioner and has a certificate in surgery, Annelies has a certificate in small animal medicine, Matt and Tiago are both undertaking a dermatology certificate and Katie is working towards her ophthalmology certificate. We also have the assistance of several visiting surgeons, including David and Nick who look after the orthopaedic cases and Vicky, a cardiology certificate holder runs our cardiology clinics.

Our full-time vets work a 4-day week.  We provide our own OOH service, which is only for registered clients and is more than often quiet with just a few telephone calls, which you can answer at home. There is always an experienced RVN in practice 24/7 to look after any in-patients and to provide you with assistance if you are called out with an emergency.  New graduates and less experienced colleagues will have an experienced vet acting as second on call for advice and assistance when required. There is only one weeknight on-call per week, which rotates so that only 1:6 will fall on a Friday, where you will then work the Saturday shift until 4pm. The weekend on-call rota is 1:7/1:8 (Saturday and Sunday) with a 4pm finish after on-call, and an additional day off the following week, giving you a long weekend off work.

Park Veterinary Hospital peak district

It’s a great area to live; within a 10-minute drive of the practice you can be enjoying the beautiful Peak District, where you can escape for lots of outdoor activities, including walking, running, cycling and climbing, surrounded by the stunning views of the Dark Peak moorlands and the Hope Valley.

We would love you to speak to our vets about what it is like to work here so that you get an honest opinion from the team and not just a great sales pitch (we promise we aren’t holding their pets hostage!).

Salary is £34,000 to £60,000 depending on experience, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, CPD allowance of £2000, with certificates supported and funded, plus all the usual benefits.

If you would like to join our team of amazing vets, incredibly caring nursing team and welcoming reception team, please feel free to call for an informal chat or click the apply button now.

Company

Park Veterinary Hospital opened its doors to business in May 1985 when David Newton started a one vet enterprise with 2 employees.

Over the last 35 years it has grown to be the only accredited Veterinary Hospital in Sheffield providing 24 hour care to our patients. We currently employ 8 vets with back-up from a cardiologist and an orthopaedic surgeon. We also have 6 qualified nurses,  at least 3-4 training nurses at any one time, 4 receptionists and 2 admin staff. Our experienced team allows us to provide care for a wide range of domestic pets from dogs to snakes.  Hospital status was approved by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in March 2001 and we are still one of the few approved hospitals in South Yorkshire and the only one in Sheffield. The current owners Donna Claridge and Carmel Stanford took over the running of the hospital in August 2007 following the retirement of David Newton. In May 2008 we opened our first branch practice, Hope Valley Veterinary Clinic, in Hathersage providing veterinary care in the Hope Valley and surrounding villages.

The hospital offers excellent facilities including a sterile operating theatre, a full range of diagnostic imaging (x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy) and a fully equipped laboratory. There are also extensive ward facilities allowing for 24 hour care including critical care facilities, an isolation ward and facilities to care for exotic species. These are staffed by our dedicated and caring veterinary and nursing team 24 hours a day.

We feel our Veterinary Hospital status reflects our desire to provide the highest standard of care to all our patients and clients.
