The Role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our happy family at Cheshire Pet Medical Centre on a full-time or part time basis. The successful candidate will find themselves in a progressive, well-supported and capable team striving to deliver the very best veterinary care to Cheshire's small animal pets. Our nurses are treated as nurses and get to run the day utilising their clinical skills. Reception work is only occasional in order to assist the Reception team at times when they may be short-staffed.

Day duties include: Admitting and discharging day patients, in-patient nursing, administering pre-medications for anaesthesia, and monitoring anaesthetics, taking blood and placing IV catheters, blood-pressure measurement, using the digital x-ray and dental x-ray machines, nurse consultations, laboratory work, assisting Vets, cleaning and assisting reception when necessary.

The shifts are usually 8:00am-4:00pm or 11:00am-7:00pm but we have the flexibility and are negotiable. 4-day weeks will be considered. The out-of-hours is only for in-patients and on a rota of 1 evening in 5. Saturdays are only 8:00am  until 1:00pm plus inpatient duties on a 1 in 6 rota.

The salary for this role will be up to £26,000 depending on experience.

We have two, well-equipped branches across the attractive market town of Sandbach; both purpose-designed, comfortable working environments with plenty of on-site parking. Our practices are only 3.5 miles apart one in Elworth and one in Winterley, both within the Sandbach postcode area. We are also one of only 20 practices in the UK to have their own purpose-designed Feline Clinic so applicants with a specific feline interest will we well accommodated working in our ISFM-accredited silver status clinic under our Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Feline Medicine, Laura Atkinson. We also have a recently installed CT scanner and accept referrals from local veterinary clinics, which include some very interesting cases, and a resident orthopaedic specialist who works out of our Elworth branch.

We enjoy a varied caseload and have an experienced team with many post-graduate qualifications between them. Interests including felines, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, orthopaedics, dental work, behaviour, medicine as well as surgical cases will be well catered for. We provide the very best care by investing in our equipment, encouraging CPD, embracing up-to-date Evidence-Based-Medicine and nurturing good relationships with local veterinary specialist services. We encourage case reflection, sharing of CPD and completion of clinical audits. We are also an RCVS- accredited Veterinary Nurse training practice. Our main branch at Winterley boasts a permanent on-site CT scanner and Feline-only clinic including consulting room and prep/theatre for cats-only (Winterley). It also has a new dental x-ray machine, endoscopy, multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring as well as the following equipment also found at our Elworth branch: Digital x-ray, ultrasound, doppler blood pressure, well-stocked laboratory and new microscope, in-house haematology and biochemistry, dental machines, separate dog and cat facilities, isolation kennels.

We have 9 Registered Veterinary Surgeons as well as a resident orthopaedic specialist at our Elworth branch, 11 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 7 Support Staff. One of our Vets is an Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Feline Medicine. An additional Vet holds an RCVS certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice. A 3rd Vet is studying towards her RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Diagnostic Imaging. Two of our Nurses hold postgraduate certificates in Advanced Veterinary Nursing. An additional nurse has recently completed her RCVS certificate in Medical Nursing and another member of staff has completed an RCVS certificate in Anaesthesia. Our staff have a wealth of interests between them and have completed or are completing CPD courses in their specific areas of interest which include behaviour and dentistry. Developing an area of interest in encouraged and supported. Through IVC we have access to community grants to support local or national charities as well as a care fund to help treat animals whose prognosis is good but where the client cannot afford the treatment required.

Applicant Requirements

We require a Registered Veterinary Nurse and will consider recent graduates. A driving licence and own car is necessary in order to commute to and between the practices and return to work for duty nights to provide in-patient care.
