Job Details

Would you like the opportunity to develop your clinical interest in a practice that can provide the flexibility and support to do so, no matter what stage of your career?

If so come and join us at Vets4Pets in Sunderland.  We are a progressive, forward thinking general practice and pride ourselves on providing an excellent standard of care to our patients while making sure our colleagues feel equally looked after and valued.

As a practice we have a varied caseload and clinical freedom with gold standard practice actively encouraged. We currently have vets studying for Certificates in medicine, surgery & ophthalmology and would love to add more. We work closely with certificate holders in surgery and ultrasonography and are keen for this to be something to remain within the team so we can expand on the services we can offer our clients.  We are also proud holders of the ISFM and RAW silver awards and Vets4Pets graduate practice of the year.

We hold fortnightly vet meetings giving colleagues the opportunity to discuss cases, review protocols and look at any new products available.  We also allocate regular admin time slots into the daily rotas as well as on the day appointments and emergency slots to help ease the day to day working of the practice.

Led by our JVPs, Rachel and Claire our friendly, knowledgeable team is made up of 6 vets, 7 RVNs, 8 SVNs and a team of experienced receptionists based across two sites.  Our nursing team is highly motivated and hold a number of post VN qualifications - Graduate Diploma and Certificates in Emergency & Critical Care, Infection Control, Feline Friendly Nursing and Dermatology and we have a nurse currently studying towards the Anaesthesia certificate.

While we are looking for someone to cover both consults and surgery – come and talk to us about your ideal working pattern – we offer flexibility both in terms of clinical preference and working hours.  We are not open Sundays, and you will not be required to cover OOHs.

Our practices are based across Sunderland, a short distance from the stunning beaches of the North East coastline and our location provides close proximity to transport links including the airport, train stations, metro stations and A19 and A1.

As well as joining our wonderful, close-knit team providing great veterinary care to their community you will also benefit from being part of the wider Vets4Pets network.  This provides additional support in many aspects of your role as well as the excellent benefits package you would expect from a major veterinary employer.  We are offering a salary of £34-65k dependent on experience and unlimited CPD with accommodation and travel paid.  We actively encourage certificates and offer support for sponsorship to overseas vets.

Locally owned practices with a world of support

At Vets for Pets we’re a network of practices that are owned and managed by the practice owners that run them. Because they’re locally owned, each practice has the freedom to serve patients and clients the way it thinks is best.

But crucially, being locally-owned also means enjoying a truly team-spirited atmosphere. We want all our colleagues to build lasting relationships with practice owners and team members as well as patients and clients.

And because we’re also part of a wider group, you’ll get all the support you need when you need it. That means state-of-the-art facilities, high quality CPD, financial stability and a real sense of job security.

With our framework, we’ve made it simpler and easier for you to help patients and clients live happier, healthier lives together. It’s about making the most of your expertise and bringing this to life in practise while being safe in the knowledge that you’re looked after too. Simply put, we offer locally owned practices with a world of support.

Flexibility & Wellbeing
You tell us which hours you want to work, and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. With us, you could enjoy a better work-life balance where flexibility and wellbeing come first.

Training & Development
We offer great training programmes, plus fully funded CPD, leadership courses and access to our group’s learning curriculum. We’ll also support you if you’re interested in owning a practice. With our wealth of resources, it’s easy to build your skills and develop your career.

Local Practices
With us, no two practices are the same. We’re deeply rooted in our local communities and we want you to really get to know your patients and clients locally.

Being part of the Pets At Home Group
Being part of Vets for Pets means you’ll be part of our network of locally owned practices. Our practices are located across the country and are owned and run by our Joint Venture Partners (JVPs). Our Joint Venture Partnership model is unique and gives everyone the best of both worlds. Working within one of our practices you’ll get to work with the JVP who has the clinical freedom and autonomy to do things their own way.

As we’re part of a large respected organisation you’ll also enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider PLC Group. This means we can give you greater stability and job security during these uncertain times and beyond.

What’s more, we’ve worked hard to make sure everyone in our group can take part in a fun, friendly, professional and inclusive culture that allows you to bring your whole self to work and be at your very best.
