The Role

We are seeking an additional colleague keen to help us drive the next phase of our growth. Our Tyne Clinic has an active and loyal client base that we are keen to nurture.  The position is primarily branch-based (consulting and operating) but can include some hospital shifts if desired.

The Tyne Clinic is a 2-vet, 4-RVN branch surgery which operates almost independently of our main hospital, and is fully equipped with x-ray, ultrasound, lab, endoscopy, operating and dental facilities.

Full time vets work a 4-day week, with fixed day off. 1 in 6 weekends worked at branch and hospital with experienced colleagues and 1 in 3 Saturday mornings working 3 hours at the branch. Applications from vets seeking a part-time position would be welcome. There is no night-time OOH and latest daytime finish is 6.30pm. Some sole charge at the branch is anticipated but workload on these days would be adjusted accordingly. Salary range up to £55,000 depending on experience plus welcome bonus of up to £3000 and relocation package of up to £5000

About Us

Located west of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, The Tyne Veterinary Clinic is a long-established practice offering a friendly and comprehensive service to the local community. Surgical, dental, laboratory, x-ray, endoscopy, and advanced ultrasound are all on site.

With the stunning countryside of the Tyne Valley and vibrant city of Newcastle on the doorstep, and stunning Northumberland coast close at hand the practice is wonderfully located. The clinic is supported by our Tier-3 hospital with a reputation for excellent clinical care, and a friendly and close-knit team.

We accept a small referral caseload in ECC, medical and surgical disciplines. Out-of-hours cover is provided by our own in-house ECC team, providing optimal continuity of care. The hospital is well-equipped, including CR x-ray, high-spec ultrasound, endoscopy & endo-surgery. Our other 3 branch surgeries work closely with the hospital and also have operating, dental and laboratory facilities.

We are a team of 15 daytime Veterinary Surgeons, 2 night-time ECC Vets, 16 Veterinary Nurses and 6 Nursing Assistants all of whom are permanent staff. We have an Advanced Practitioner in surgery and a medicine certificate-holder, with several vets also working towards advanced qualifications in surgery, medicine and cardiology. The integration of our daytime and night-time teams ensures optimal patient care and fantastic teamwork. There is also plenty of contact between branches and hospital with most vets working between sites and monthly team meetings (during working hours, of course). Our team ethos is important to us, with frequent socials and pizza fuelled in-house CPD and journal clubs both lunchtime and evenings. We are a proud host practice for the Pet Blood Bank and work with several local charities.

Applicant Requirements

We are seeking an additional colleague keen to help us drive the next phase of our growth, particularly through building on the exceptional local service provided by our Tyne Clinic. While the position is primarily branch surgery work (consulting and operating), it can include some hospital shifts if desired in order to follow-up cases and make use of our Tier-3 Hospital facilities and colleagues.

The clinic draws its clients from a broad demographic so an ability to work with all types of client means and expectations would be an asset.

Our experienced team would be very happy to support a less experienced colleague.

Company

Tyne Veterinary Clinic was set up in October 1998 by Tim Bradbury, a local resident. An empty property on Jubilee Terrace was purchased and converted to provide a veterinary surgery with full diagnostic and surgical facilities on site. The aim was to provide a comprehensive veterinary service on one site at a reasonable price to our clients and to maintain a “family run” feel to the business. Our facilities have expanded over the years to include more advanced diagnostic aids. These include an ultrasound scanner, on-site blood testing (haematology and biochemistry), endoscopy and bronchoscopy, air-driven dental equipment, and digital radiography.

In 2003, Tim successfully passed the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ certificate in Veterinary Cardiology. He has now been given the status of Royal College Advanced Practioner in Veterinary Cardiology. He takes cardiology referrals from several local practices.

The surgery is approved for training of veterinary nurses and so far has seen 4 trainees successfully qualify – the latest being Claire, who joined us as a trainee in 2010. Danielle, who completed her training with us and moved on in 2010 is back working with us from January 2018.

Shona joined the practice in early 2010 and did her first year veterinary nurse training with us. After completing her training elsewhere, she returned to Tyne Vet Clinic to take up the position of Head Nurse. Ashleigh also joined us the same year, not long after completing her nurse training at a practice in South Shields.

We regularly have school pupils doing their work-experience with us, several of whom have done regular work-experience over a long period with a view to training to be vets. We feel that providing this sort of opportunity is an important part of a veterinary practice’s role in the community and a way we can help future members of the profession in the same way we have been helped in the past.

Due to the ever increasing work-load, the practice now employs a full-time veterinary assistant which has the added benefit of enabling Tim to have some Saturday’s off and also means he can take holiday without having to try and find a locum vet to cover – not always and easy thing!

The practice is an approved member of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme at the General Practice level. This ensures, through regular inspections, that the practice is run to a high standard to the benefit of staff, clients and their pets.
