The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and diverse team at Walton Lodge (Hoddesdon & Ware). This is a full-time role working 40 hours a week over 4 days, 9am to 7pm with 1 in 2 Saturday consult weekends, 1 night a week on call and 1 in 7 long on call weekends - Friday evening to Monday morning. When on call you will only be called in as and when required. 

Your typical week would include mornings and afternoons made up of consultations. After consultations, the rest of your day will be spent liaising with the inpatients and the owners regarding further work ups required or you will be on theatre duties and will complete the ops booked in for that day.


Salary

The salary for this role is up to £65,000 depending on experience.

Walton Lodge has six surgeries which are situated in Bengeo, Bishop's Stortford, Harlow, Hoddesdon, Stevenage, and Ware. About the Team and Culture

Walton Lodge is made up of a team of 8 experienced Veterinary Surgeons, 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 4 Student Veterinary Nurses and 11 Receptionists. Helen Lee is the senior Veterinary Surgeon at Walton Lodge and Helen qualified from Bristol University in 1984 and has worked in Hertfordshire since 1985 as a small animal Veterinary Surgeon. Our team of experienced and very capable Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Nurses aim to provide the highest quality of care for our client’s pets. CPD is highly encouraged, for example, one of our vets in doing a laparoscopic course with the RVC shortly and once of our RVN is doing a certificate in nursing.


Applicant Requirements

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced small animal veterinary surgeon with great client communication skills, a good team ethic and able to make decisions, delegate and prioritise. We would Ideally like to have someone with an interest in surgery and orthopaedics, but this is not essential.

Our Hoddesdon surgery is where our 24-hour emergency on-call care centre is located. This surgery has 24hour on-site nurse monitoring, to maintain all of your pets care and needs. 

Our Veterinary Surgeons are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so that in the unfortunate case of an emergency, your pet would be seen by one of our own Vets at one of our surgeries.
