The Role
Why do we need another Vet?

Due to business growth and the sad news that one of our vets is heading home to Norway, this has left us with a gap for a new family member to join our four-vet team. We are seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join us on a full-time basis, (40 hours a week). This is generally spread over a 4.5-day week, but we would consider a 4-day week if that suited you! We are happy to consider part time applicants and shifts can be discussed happily, with some flexibility.

The good news! There are no OOH's, bank holiday's or full weekends! Our out of hours provider is Vets Now and our weekends consist of Saturdays only, on a 1 in 4 basis currently. Time in lieu is provided for this. We offer 15-minute consultations minimum, extended consults can be catered for, for more complex cases. The diary is organised with plenty of room for appointments, emergency block offs/on the day appointments, breaks, catch ups and time for phone calls. There is also a fairly constant stream of tea and coffee to keep you going. If you're unhappy with anything we are always keen to try and work out the best way to adapt and help! We have a range of equipment including dental machine, digital x-rays, and ultrasound. Our teams are friendly and supportive, and we have a wide range of knowledge across the vets and RVNs. We find we work best by discussing cases and sharing opinions, communication is a really important part of the day to day here and we encourage openness and teamwork but also the freedom to explore your own cases as you wish. CPD is a generous allowance and encouraged for personal progression and that of the practice. Salary is D.O.E and skill set, between £30k and £45k.

About Us
Both of our practices are situated within walking distance of the town centres. Our mother practice is located in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. This is where the Bray House Story began over two decades ago. A few years later, Bray House Vets in Grantham, Lincolnshire was born. Both practices are equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, ECG, as well as all the basic necessities for a first opinion practice. We have a visiting referral orthopaedic Vet, who joins us on a need to basis to perform some surgeries for us. Both practices have a separate dog and cat ward to minimize the stress for our inpatients. They are both equipped with reasonably sized theatres and consult rooms and offer generous reception waiting areas (when clients are allowed back in!). Currently we are working on a non-client entry for consults, except for euthanasia's and to make payments where over the phone isn't possible. We help a range of loyal clientele, many of our clients are insured which offers great opportunity to work to the standard we all strive for! There are also clients with lower incomes so it is important to be able to adapt to suit so that they still receive the best care we can give. Overall, they provide an interesting and varied caseload!

Applicant Requirements
The role is not currently suitable for a new graduate veterinary surgeon, as candidates will be required to work independently without support at times. They will need to be able to undertake all manner of routine consults and surgeries on a sole charge basis. We are seeking a competent experienced vet who is able to work by themselves.

Company

The practice was started in the 1970’s by Mr & Mrs Moravec. It originally looked after all types of animals but later became more specialised, treating only small animals.

In 1995 the practice was sold and became Bray House Veterinary Practice. It became the only 100% small animal practice in the area. Over time, the practice has developed and grown.

As the customer list has increased we have been able to employ more vets. We make sure that we employ vets who have a similar interest in the care and welfare of small animals.

In 2003 the practice opened a new venture in Grantham. The nurses and vets were so confident of their care and compassion we entered the Grantham Journal Business Awards for Customer Care. In 2004 we won this award beating ASDA into second place.

All our vets undergo constant continuing education programmes and both practices are involved in veterinary nurse training. The practices are members of the RCVSBVA and BSAVA.

The practice also provides help with various companies with regard to the export of finished food products. In the past we have provided extensive help to Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition, Masterfoods, Mars, Telfer Foods, Marks & Spencers, and Arla Foods.

In 2019, our Melton practice were finalists for the Melton Times Customer Focus Award.
