Our Vision

To be recognised as an exceptional and trusted provider of primary veterinary care to our patients and clients within the communities that we serve. “Every patient, every client, every visit”.

Cherrydown Vets are a progressive, forward-thinking, premium veterinary group with an excellent reputation thanks to our 60 Vets, Nurses, Patient Care Assistants (PCA), Receptionists and support staff. We are based across three sites which include the main hospital Basildon and two practices in Stanford and Wickford, serving as preventative clinics.

We have plenty of parking on-site with easy access to public transport for those that don’t drive.

Why join us:

  • Highly experienced superior nurse team!
  • Excellent variety in caseload
  • Certificates encouraged
  • We genuinely are like a family
  • Great rotas
  • Cat-friendly status.

Your roles and responsibilities

Our hospital and practices are very popular with an excellent variety of caseloads. We have a great clinical and non-clinical team all dedicated to ensuring the needs of the animals and client are met and the customer journey is excellent.  Our vets are based at our Basildon hospital where they would be on a rota for either consults, ops or hospital vet days. We have a digital x-ray, new ultrasound machine, new endoscopes and a designated dental suite.

Our staff are motivated and encouraged to gain additional certifications across all levels. Our vets ideally need to be proficient in both medicine and surgery but special interests are catered for.

Our Veterinary Surgeons can do certificates! We have two surgical cert holders! If you want to do imaging or a medicine cert, ophthalmology or emergency critical care (ECC), we have enough cases. Our varied caseload means that it is easy to attain the cases required to complete the case log for certificate study.

Our culture at Cherrydown is 'collaborative' with a focus on continuous improvement.

For Vets looking to join a superior nursing team, you can find no better than here at Cherrydown. A lot of the ideas are nurse-driven and we respect our nurses as they help drive forward those changes as a team. This is exemplified by the cat-friendly status we have achieved at the clinic because of the dedication of two of our nurses in particular. We are now looking at working towards rabbit friendly Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) award. It has also led to procedural changes to improve patient care and overall standards.

We genuinely are like a family. It's a friendly, learning environment with a very caring and driven team. The nurses are experienced and supportive - we listen to them.

  • Delivering a high level of clinical and patient care in line with the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme
  • Delivering an exceptional level of client care. Make sure client interactions are focused on delivering value and great service with warmth
  • Working within the team to contribute your skills, efforts, and personal strengths to help ensure a harmonious team ethos.

We are looking for a vet with 2 years+ experience and a keen interest in all areas of small animal first opinion work. Career progression opportunities are available dependent on experience. We have opportunities for our vets to undertake certifications as we have a high SA and exotics caseload so interests in small animal surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging and exotics are most welcome.

Full-time hours: 40-hour week: a 4-day week with 1 in 9 on call weekends.

We believe in supporting and investing in our staff, investing in our facilities, and ensuring that our clients and their pets receive only the very best, modern first opinion. We are very proud of our achievements and our reputation in the veterinary profession.

  • Highly competitive salary
  • Great rota
  • 25 days per annum plus bank holidays plus birthday day off
  • Productivity bonus scheme
  • Certificates encouraged and funding available
  • RCVS fees paid
  • VDS membership
  • £1500 CPD allowance with five days off to attend (Higher budget/courses negotiable)
  • Staff discount scheme
  • Workplace pension scheme
  • Additional CPD for clinical coaches
  • Outstanding maternity and paternity leave.
