Buchan Vets - Large Animal Vet opportunties

Due to practice expansion, and a much loved team member moving to new pastures, Buchan Vets have two new opportunities in our large animal department;
  • Recent graduate Large animal Veterinary Surgeon
  • Experienced Large animal Veterinary Surgeon

  • We are a farm and equine oriented rural practice in north Aberdeenshire based in Strichen and Turriff.

    Our farm client base revolves mainly around beef suckler (commercial and pedigree) and beef finisher units. Dairy work is minimal. We have thriving pedigree and commercial sheep farms and an enthusiastic and receptive small holder community. OV work is minimal with TB in a 4 year testing area and export work handled mainly by the senior team.

    Our equine client base is a friendly and laid back mix of mostly leisure riders, comprising of amateur competition sports horses and happy hackers. We also do some stud work. We have an Equine internal medicines specialist visiting the practice monthly for consultation and training.

    Our recent graduate position is a full time and includes on-call. This would suit someone interested in working with both farm animals and horses.

    Our experienced vet position could be full time or part time and includes on-call. An enthusiasm for equine work would be beneficial.

    Vets work a 4 day week. On-call/ooh is shared evenly between the team working out as an overall 1:4 (this is seasonally split 1:3 first and second on-call during our busy season December-May, then 1:6 sole on-call June-November).

    Recent graduates have full back-up from a senior vet until confident to fly solo.

    Aberdeenshire's slogan is ‘From Mountain to Sea'; from the Cairngorm National Park “one of the last great places on earth” to award winning beaches that are considered “one of the world's top-rated coastlines” (National Geographic). Whatever outdoor pursuits you enjoy you are sure to find ample chances to hike, surf, kayak, ski, horse ride, kite board, free swim, shoot, mountain bike or just sit back and watch the wildlife go by. Culturally the area is littered with stone circles, castles, museums and Pictish stones to explore. Arguably some of the finest whisky is made just round the corner.

    North Aberdeenshire, Doric Country, is a thriving and good natured rural community with many friendly clubs and societies. Buchan Vets Large Animal team would welcome vets who are ready to take on their next great adventure.
