Job Details

Experience why the world loves Canada! Affordability, adventure, friendly people, universal healthcare and beautiful scenery.

The Practice

Are you passionate about hiking, kayaking, fishing, and exploring the Great Canadian Outdoors? Are you searching for an adventure and an incredible opportunity to advance your career, get ahead financially, and gain experience with a wide variety of cases? Are you looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the larger cities, and ditch the crowds, traffic, and daily commute?

Escape to Pacific Coast Veterinary Hospital in Prince Rupert, a quaint coastal community of over 12,000 people on the northwest coast of British Columbia. If you’re ready for the experience of a lifetime in a picturesque Canadian location, but don't want to shovel snow out of your driveway… then you can’t afford to miss this awesome opportunity!

Pacific Coast Veterinary Hospital is a fully equipped Small Animal hospital with in-house diagnostics, digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, and a computerized records system (Avimark). The culture of our practice values open communication, teamwork, equality and impeccable client care. We work collaboratively, and have regular meetings to ensure consistency and open communication. Together, we run a busy and successful hospital. Our RVTs are fully utilized, and are also responsible for all of the estimates, billing, and invoicing. We take pride in the dynamic and supportive culture we have fostered, and look forward to nurturing the establishment of our next colleague and friend.

Location

Prince Rupert is a rural city centre populated by people with a sense of adventure and a love for the Great Canadian Outdoors. We are a northern port city, but it isn’t cold here. Our coastal climate is celebrated by outdoor enthusiasts that enjoy world-class hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking - even in the winter months! Prince Rupert is a hub for the region’s natural and cultural heritage, and a gateway to spectacular wilderness areas, such as the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Sanctuary bear habitat. It is a close-knit community and a sanctuary for nature lovers fighting back against traffic, pollution, and escalating property prices in other beautiful coastal British Columbia locations. Being in a remote location, our Veterinary Professionals enjoy the challenges of interesting cases and we are constantly learning and growing together.

Moving from the UK to Canada has the appeal of travel and adventure, without the drawbacks of language barriers or disorienting culture shock. The rumours are true, we do say “eh?” and apologize often, but we think that just adds to our charm! Canada is a peaceful country; we celebrate diversity, culture, equity, the arts, sports and adventure. You will be free to authentically be yourself and feel welcomed into our community with open arms and hearts.

The Role

Everything you do will be grounded in a focus on providing unparalleled high-quality care to Small Animal Pets and the People who love them. A mix of appointments and surgeries can be expected. If you show up with a can-do attitude and a love of surgery and medicine, we’ll set you up for success. The most common types of surgeries you will encounter will be routine Spays & Neuters. A proficiency with dentistry is preferred, but isn’t required as training and CPD can be provided to enhance your dentistry skills. The most common types of emergencies you will encounter include: hit-by-car, porcupine quills, cardiac distress, marijuana toxicity, and blocked cats. An understanding of the importance of preventative medicine, client education, and a team-based approach to medicine is required.

Successful Candidate

Our ideal candidate takes pride in their leadership and communication abilities. Although a minimum of 2 years of experience is preferred, a keen newer graduate with a high level of confidence would be considered. If you show up with a can-do attitude and a love of surgery and medicine, we’ll set you up for success. For the right individual, we would absolutely consider the possibility of buy-in. Either way, it’s incredibly important to us that you have a voice and take an active role in the evolution of our hospital, because it will be your hospital too. Ideally you like to be organized and are diligent about record keeping and timeliness. You are team-oriented, kind-hearted and passionate about helping people and their pets.
