Joining our professional, personable team in the practice, you’ll deliver exceptional care by going beyond consulting to listening and empathising, putting patients and clients first, always.

As well as your day to day duties within practice caring for your patients and clients, you will have the drive and ambition to develop the practice optimising the client and patient experience, promoting safety while training, developing and leading the entire nursing team.  

You’ll also be proactive in maintaining your own professional and clinical skills, carry out accurate and timely reporting and explore ways that we can further develop our standards.       

As an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse, you’ll already have good knowledge of how a dynamic, practice runs efficiently and effectively. Sharing our values of being trustworthy, caring and progressive, you’ll also take the initiative in patient welfare and have caring, thoughtful communication skills. Just as important are the leadership skills essential to enabling your team to work as one and look ahead to see how they can be even better. 

Key accountabilities:

Principal accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Veterinary Surgeon and other support staff with in-patient care
  • Independently carry out nursing duties to a high standard
  • Ensure adequate nursing plans and inpatient records are set up and assessed as required in relation to the patient's requirements
  • Communicating in an effective and pleasant manner with clients and colleagues
  • Maintain professional nursing standards in accordance with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) guidelines
  • Responsible for the supervision and management of the nursing team in accordance with professional and RCVS standards
  • To provide consistent, clear, clinical and professional leadership and act as a mentor for all staff demonstrating professional awareness and accountability in care.
  • To provide clinical training and mentoring to nursing and auxiliary staff.
  • Create a clear and effective two-way communication within the nursing team ensuring all team members are kept up to date.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the practice in a safe and hygienic condition with effective monitoring procedures. 

Skills and experience:

Registered Veterinary Nurse, previous Head Nurse experience is desirable but not essential. 

Clinical coach would be advantageous
