Job Details

Redruth

We are looking for a vet who loves what they do, or maybe has lost that lovin’ feeling and wants to be part of an energetic and supportive team.

About Us

We are a small, independent practice, and plan to stay that way. Our director is an RVN who understands that happy staff = happy clients and healthy patients = successful business. She prioritises staff wellness and satisfaction.  We believe that Gold Standard Treatment is care that is tailored to each individual patient and owner and we value a collaborative approach between vet and client.

In the words of Han Solo, “she may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts”, which is a fair description of our current building, and boy, do we have it where it counts! We have all the equipment you would expect at a first opinion practice including an extensive Idexx lab and are hoping embark on some upgrades and extensions in the near future. Our vets, nurses and support staff are all excellent at what they do and the thing we hear time and time again from clients is how happy and friendly everyone is. Redruth Vet Surgery seems to have struck the right balance between laid-back and professional, fun and hard-working, and we’re not the only ones who think so. We were delighted to be crowned Best Veterinary Practice in Cornwall by VetHelp Direct for 2022.

From our Head Vet: “I had started to lose faith in the veterinary industry all together a few years back, and was thinking about leaving all together. Fortunately, I found this practice and I am back doing what I love, in a way that I love. We are a small enough team that each of us count and matter as individuals, with experience and facilities enough to thoroughly work up cases and perform complicated surgeries on site. I don’t feel pressured to hit targets, over-service or up-sell. Our success as a practice comes from having open and honest conversations with owners, tailoring diagnostic and treatment plans to different situations and having the trust of our clients.”

We have great Health Care Plans in place, including unlimited consultations, which makes it easier to offer the best standard of care to our patients.

Most importantly, we genuinely enjoy coming to work – and it shows!

The Role

We are looking to fill a position that is an average of 34 hours per week, with a rota that includes 1 in 3 Saturday mornings, a 3 day weekend every 3 weeks, and a mixture of shifts of 8:30-6:30, 10:30-6:30 or 8:30-4:30. The rota also allows time for paperwork/catch-up/phone calls etc, and at least one operating day per week (if desired). There is no OOH as these are covered by an emergency practice.  We would also be open to applicants interested in part time hours.

Successful Candidate

Experience would be ideal, but we would also be happy to provide support for a less experienced vet. The ability to work independently is an advantage, but the ability to work well as part of a team is essential, as is common sense and a good sense of humour.

The Package

  • Salary of £32 – £45K per year, (34 hour week)
  • Pension
  • Private Health
  • VDS, RCVS and BVA fees and CPD allowance

Location

Redruth, Cornwall (mid Cornwall). Within 10 minutes of beautiful Cornish beaches in any direction

Company

I moved to Cornwall in 2004 where I jointly owned and ran a veterinary practice in Hayle. In 2012 I decided to take on the challenge of owning my own surgery and purchased Jennifer Williamson’s well established practice on North Street, Redruth which I have called Redruth Veterinary Surgery.
