The Role

Here at Berry House, we are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team. Our team of 8 Nurses work across all disciplines and nursing activities. These will include nurse consultations, medical nursing, diagnostics inc. radiography and laboratory work, anaesthesia, and inpatient care; in addition to assisting Veterinary Surgeons during procedures and consultations/visits. Nurses will have responsibility for a set task area each day: theatre, inpatient, duty, consulting but the teamwork together to cover all aspects and care provision. This role will offer plenty of scope for professional growth whatever level of previous experience.

You will work 5 days per week and Saturdays on a rota with 8-hour weekday shift. Depending on your allocated task area you will start anytime from 7:30am with inpatients and admits to 10:00am for as part of the 'late' team; the duty shift starts at 4:00pm and works through until 10pm (no phones).

Salary

Salary for the role is up to £25,000 per annum depending on experience.

Berry House is a well-established RCVS accredited practice with a good reputation and bonded clients, many of whom have pets registered on our Healthcare Plan. We have 4 consultation rooms including 1 designated for nurses, large waiting room, wrap around dispensary, dog kennel and cat cage areas (not exclusive). We undertake regular laparoscopic procedures which include the majority of our bitch spays and also some biopsies.

Our strength is our team which enables us to undertake a huge variety of procedures ranging from electives to emergency surgery and medicine.

Hitchin has been cited as the second-best place to live; it has a strong cafe culture with an old market square and many independent shops. It is on the mainline railway link to London and Cambridge. It has all the advantages of a traditional town but also benefits from a large selection of open spaces, commons and rural footpaths and bridlepaths within the immediate area, including access to the popular Barton Hills. Plenty of space in which to walk, cycle and enjoy the great outdoors.

About the Team and Culture

We have a reputable and knowledgeable team of 8 Veterinary Surgeons, 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 1 Student Veterinary Nurse. In addition, we have a Practice Manager who is also a qualified Veterinary Nurse.  We have a full support team of receptionists in practice as well. Amongst our team, we have Certificate holders in Surgery, Feline Medicine, Cardiology and Advanced Veterinary Practice. You will be supported within the team by the whole practice team - we believe that each member of the team brings value and their own experience and perspective to the Practice. We support Veterinary EMS placements throughout the year and also allow students to undertake work experience enabling them to progress with their veterinary career goals - whether as a Vet or a Nurse.

Applicant Requirements 

We are seeking a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse who will have an Interest in Nurse consultations, have good communication skills and enthusiasm to provide support to clients both in person and over the phone; with ideas for client, engagement encouraged.
