We’re recruiting a Vet Surgeon to join us at our Block Fen Animal Centre on a full time, permanent basis.

As part of the larger Animal Centre team, this role allows you to have a unique relationship with the animals on site, from intake, rehabilitation through to rehoming, enabling a full case continuity. This role also provides access to the wider RSPCA veterinary team, allowing potential for further opportunities and visits to other facilities.

About Us

RSPCA Block Fen Animal Centre was built in 2003 on approximately 70 acres near the village of Wimblington in rural Cambridgeshire. We are able to accommodate 63 dogs, 72 cats, 32 rabbits and various other small animals, poultry and farm animals.

As part of a larger veterinary department in the wider organisation, our Centre vet team is made up of a veterinary surgeon and a veterinary nurse. As a team we enjoy working to high welfare and clinical standards. This is a unique role, you won't be seeing clients and their pets, instead you'll be working with the animal centre staff and Inspectorate to ensure the health and welfare of all the RSPCA animals presented to the Centre. Although the role is sole charge you will have support from the other vets across the organisation.

The Role

We’re recruiting a Vet Surgeon to join us at our Block Fen Animal Centre on a full time, permanent basis.

  • Overseeing the rehabilitation of injured/ ill strays and victims of cruelty and neglect.
  • Demonstrating competence across veterinary disciplines, including;
    • Neutering
    • Dentistry
    • Shelter medicine
    • Sole charge
  • Training Centre staff in standard procedures and protocols
  • Implementing RSPCA policies in regard to the re-homability of animals including decision making on individual cases
  • Welfare support work for the RSPCA Inspectorate

Successful Candidate

Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

Previous clinical experience

A professional approach to veterinary care and clinic practice

Excellent time management skills
