About Us

Clifton Vets is a small animal-only practice seeing the usual range of dogs, cats and small furries. We are first opinion only but do have visiting specialists. There is a well-equipped first opinion set up with digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and an on-site lab.

This is small practice with high standards and a large number of clients wanting cases worked up properly.
The practice is sited in Clifton only a short walk from the centre of Bristol, the historic suspension bridge, and Clifton Village.

Our team consists of three Veterinary Surgeons, two Registered Veterinary Nurses, an Assistant Nurse, and our receptionists. We have two Certificate Holders (Surgery and Ophthalmology) one of whom is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner (Ophthalmology). The ideal candidate will become the third member of this team.

Our veterinary practice based in Clifton has been standing since approximately 1947, where initial vet, Mr. E Cummins-Summner MRCVS, set up the practice.

In 1984 the practice was acquired by Mr Anthony Kaye MRCVS who renovated the historic building, installing central heating systems and hot running water. Mr Kaye’s young family initially lived over the practice but then later moved out to the suburbs.

The current vet, James Pickering MRCVS, took over the practice in early 2009 and has since renovated the practice further. From basement to roof, James has refurbished the practice with modern equipment in order to ensure the practice is able to provide a full service to you and your pets. From a full operating surgery to X-ray suites and ultrasound imaging to examination facilities, the new equipment has brought the surgery completely up to date.

Our practice can cater for all of your pet's needs, including comfortable hospitalisation wards, pet grooming services, routine treatments and pet accessories and collars.

The most important feature of our practice is our staff. Friendly, reliable and completely besotted with animals, our staff are on hand to cater to you and your pet's needs, whatever the request.
