The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join us at Stocks Veterinary Centre! You will work on a part-time shift pattern, across our two practices which are based in Upton-upon-Severn & Lower Wick, Worcester.

Day-to-day duties include anaesthesia, surgical work, dealing with in-patients, preparing patients for surgery, monitoring anaesthetics, providing analgesia and Schedule Three procedures. During nurse clinics you will carry out microchipping, second vaccines, preventative parasite control, puppy and kitten clinics, diabetic and weight clinics, administering medication and wound management. Our Registered Veterinary Nurses are backed up by a team of fabulous Vet Care Assistants.
The role will be 29 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with Thursdays off. The role will include routine inclusion on the weekend & out-of-hours inpatient rota (no emergencies), with time-off in lieu of Saturday mornings worked.

The salary for this role is up to £26,000 (full-time equivalent) depending on experience.

About Us

We are a first opinion, small animal practice based in Worcestershire, with our main site in Upton-upon-Seven and a smaller branch in Lower Wick, Worcester. Our Upton-upon-Severn site is situated in a former GP surgery with a large reception that has separate dog and cat waiting areas. There are two consulting rooms and a nurse clinic room, and separate dog, cat, and isolation kennels, we also have a pretty, walled garden to exercise inpatients. All clinical areas have piped oxygen, with dedicated prep, theatre, and diagnostic rooms. We have a wide range of modern diagnostic equipment, including an in-house lab, digital x-ray (including dental), laparoscopy, endoscopy, and ultrasound.

Our Lower Wick site is situated within an old farm cottage and has a dedicated theatre with a separate prep room and an in-house lab. Both sites are within easy reach of the M5 and M50 motorways, with good links to Birmingham airport and are close to the beautiful Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds.

About the Team and Culture

Our wonderful team is made up of 8 vets, 7 registered veterinary nurses, and 2 (soon to be 3) veterinary care assistants. Amongst us, we have 3 certificate holders in feline and medicine. We are a close knit-team and take well-being and team building seriously, participating in charity runs and hikes as well as local dog shows!
We want our nurses to feel valued and give them the freedom to make decisions and share ideas, bringing their nursing knowledge to the team. We understand that all individuals have their areas of interest which would be welcomed to the team. We have visiting ultrasound and orthopaedic specialists who carry out referral procedures on-site, which gives clients the option of not having to travel to specialist centres plus the nurses are able to gain experience in these areas too. We are a nurse training practice and many of our students go on to stay with us when qualified! The staff work collaboratively as a team and there is always someone around to bounce ideas off or lend a hand as needed.

Applicant Requirements

The candidate ideally will have experience in all areas of general nursing duties, such as anaesthesia monitoring, handling/restraining patients, taking blood samples, administering medication, IV catheter care, placing IV catheters and carrying out nurse consultations. However, we will happily consider a range of experience levels as there is ample support for recent graduates. Applicants must have a full UK driving licence and proof of right to work in the UK.

The Stocks Veterinary Centre moved from New Street in Upton Upon Severn where there had been a veterinary practice since 1945. We take our name from the old stocks that were situated in New Street, formerly known as Stocks Lane, in the sixteenth century. Due to the expansion of the practice in recent years we moved to the site of the old doctors surgery in School Lane in 2009.

We now run two centres, the main surgery in Upton-upon-Severn and a newly refurbished branch surgery at Lower Wick, Worcester.
