The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Head Nurse who strives for clinical excellence to join us. Thornbury branch is a well-equipped practice with a friendly team, based just outside Bristol.

This is a full time RVN position, comprising of a 40-hour week, spread over 5 days from 7.45am to 7.30pm, we can offer flexibility with the shift patterns to ensure a healthy work life balance for the team. You will participate in a 1:6 weekend rota at our Bradley Stoke Hospital, working Saturday and Sunday receiving time off in lieu for the shifts worked. This gives you the opportunity to manage inpatient wards at the hospital and gain exposure to ECC work.

You would be joining a friendly and motivated team and this role would suit an experienced RVN who enjoys something different every day. 

In return you can expect a salary of up to £28,000 depending on experience.

About Us

The practice has all the capability of a much larger practice whilst enjoying the ethos of smaller team. Equipment includes digital X-ray, separate dental X-ray equipment and dental operating theatre, ultrasound, advanced anaesthetic monitoring equipment. 

We have separate dog and cat wards; a dedicated cat operating theatre and we actively promote our cat friendly silver status. We offer acupuncture on top of the usual first opinion work.

At Thornbury the team have the freedom to work up their cases and to do this the vets rely on the nursing team. You will be expected to be involved in all aspects of patient care, from nursing hospitalised day patients, theatre duties, laboratory work, assisting with complex surgical and medical procedures as well as running your own nurse clinics. 

We are a happy, supportive practice who take wellbeing seriously, we want our nurses to enjoy every day, if you have a passion for something clinically, we would encourage further training to develop your nursing skills. Our Head Nurse has completed the Nurses certificate in Anaesthesia, and our Clinical Lead has a certificate in Diagnostic Imaging. Our team is excited to expand the capabilities of our nursing team, including schedule 3 procedures.

Applicant Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is looking to take the next step into their management career, possesses the ability the guide and help build their team whilst working closely with the Head Nurse. This role will require the candidate to take on extra responsibilities and provide leadership when needed. This candidate will already be a role model within their teams and will be able to demonstrate the criteria required.
