Senior Vet Surgeon

Calder Vets, Wakefield

Salary £40-60k+ depending on experience

About us

Calder Vets Willow Park is one of our eleven Calder surgeries. It is our largest clinic outside of our Dewsbury Hospital and it is a beautiful brand new, purpose designed building.  It benefits from separate cat/dog waiting areas (we are proudly Cat Friendly), three air-conditioned consultation rooms, preps area, separate cat and dog hospital, dental equipment including X-ray, imaging room with X-ray and ultrasound and theatre. We offer a full range of primary care services, such as consultations, preventative healthcare, routine and non-routine surgery, dentistry, and imaging (x-ray and ultrasound). We also have a nice staff break area so you can enjoy your down time.

We are a medium sized, friendly team of five vets, four RVNs, one SVN, one PCA (Eleanor) and four receptionists (Zoe, Vicky, and Amelia) and we have a loyal and growing client base following our relocation 12 months ago. Due to growth, we need a Senior Vet to confidently lead our team. This is a fantastic role for an experienced Vet Surgeon looking to progress their career in leadership and management. We can offer support if you are new to leadership. The key is that you can built a great rapport with the team and with clients, and that you share our Core Values of providing excellent patient and client care.

We are lucky to be supported by our Tier 3 Hospital in Dewsbury where you can refer cases in house for soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, ophthalmology, cardiology, and imaging (ultrasound, endoscopy, CT, MRI), as well as for rehabilitation services (physio, hydro, laser) through our own physiotherapist led Rehabilitation Centre.  Dewsbury also offers 24-hour on-site emergency care through our dedicated ECC night team, so you always know your patients are well looked after out of hours.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Senior Vet Surgeon, your role would include building strong relationships with the team and clients and performing high-quality medicine and surgery and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to help drive the clinic forward in terms of team engagement, clinical quality, and financial performance.  You would be responsible for the line management of the other vets in the team (currently five), ensuring we are delivering a quality service and more.

Some things to know about us:

  • Our ethos is clinical excellence, and we try and live by our core values
  • Client and patient care are at the heart of what we do
  • We are working towards our Investors in the Environment Bronze award
  • We prioritise mental health and wellbeing with a team of trained Mental Health First Aiders in the practice
  • Work:life balance is important to us and our full time rota is 40 hours with a 3.5 day week plus 1 in 4 weekends

Shifts: Monday 8-8, Tues OFF, Weds 8-1 (admin), Thurs 8-8, Fri 8-6

Benefits

  • Excellent salary package of up to £65,000 per annum, dependent on experience (including RCVS fees paid, and £2,000 CPD allowance)
  • Linnaeus CPD Programme (including certificate holder level and leadership CPD)
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Staff discounts
  • Pension
  • 5 weeks holiday (plus bank holidays and your birthday off!)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Eyecare vouchers.

Company

Our mission at Calder Vets is simply this – to provide a first class personal, caring and professional service to you and your pet, backed up by some of the best facilities in the North of England.

We will do our utmost to provide and advise you on the best preventative healthcare. However, should your pet become ill we will always try and discuss all the available options with you; from basic, simple treatments through to more advanced tests and procedures, should they be required. This means you can make the right decision for your pet armed with all the information you need.

Our vets will always advise you based on what they genuinely believe is in the best interests of your pet. No one at Calder Vets is on commission or ‘performance related pay’, and never will be. All we ask our vets and nurses is that they look after your pets as if they were there own. The number of clients who recommended us to their friends and family is hopefully testament to this.

The nature of Veterinary Medicine is changing, but our practice is still owned by and run by Vets only. This is something that will never change.
