Broadland Veterinary Practice

In a world where we all turn to our tablets and screens for advice and validation of our clinical choices, how about switching off and looking to an experienced surgeon for mentorship? The lovely Hilary Warner, owner of our fantastically friendly Broadland House Vets, is just that. With over 30 years of experience under her belt, she is here to support you and nourish your skills as you join our long-standing team for years to come.

Our practice is very flexible and relaxed, and really tries to accommodate everyone’s individual needs. This role could happily suit someone looking for part-time or flexible working. Do you need to walk your dogs or pop to check on your horse each day? Not a problem - the rota can be designed around you! If you have finished consulting for the morning and feel you can get more work done at home, then please feel free to pop out for a while to make your calls, write your notes and come back for the afternoon.

Do you need to start a little later and finish a little earlier for other commitments? Please don’t feel like we would be put off by these requests – we will make it work! What we are really trying to say is that we look after our colleagues and want you to be happy here and we will work with you to make that happen.

Equally if you are early on in your career and are looking for a friendly practice to build your confidence, this would be the perfect practice. Support is here in abundance. Hillary’s wealth of knowledge and years of experience put her in an excellent position to offer guidance on those real head-scratcher cases. Would you like to get stuck in with all the juicy surgical cases (including liver lobectomies and nephrectomies)? Then Hilary is the mentor for you!

Broadland House was started over 45 years ago and with Hilary at the helm for the last 11, our small but mighty practice packs a punch when it comes to a really interesting, once-in-a-career caseload. We are looking for a surgeon to join us on a full- or part-time/ flexible working basis and not only will Hilary be there to support you, but you will also be backed by our four RVNs, one SVN, two auxiliaries and two wonderful receptionists. You will even have your own theatre nurse, Dave, who will look after you during the surgical day and make sure the nursing team have your patients prepped by the time you need to start ops.

There is plenty of kit for you to get your hands on including digital x-ray and a Storz endoscope plus rhino- and broncho- scopes, and dental x-ray is next on the list. Hilary has a special interest in heart scans and puts our lovely Sonoscape ultrasound (with four probes plus colour doppler) to good use. She is also happy to see referrals from local practices.

Two of our RVNs have been here for over 15 years and the practice feels like a family and this is why people enjoy working here so much.

Practice administrator, Sarah says ‘I really enjoy working for a person that I trust 100% and that I know is giving the best she can at all times. Hilary puts herself out so much and the team and the animals always come first’.

Locums Nick and Alex were booked in for just two months but ended up staying 20 months because they liked the practice so much and the only reason, they moved was due to relocation, but they don’t have a bad word to say about Broadland.

‘We very much enjoyed our time in Norfolk working within a small close-knit team at Broadlands House; the practice is well equipped with a very loyal and friendly client base; it’s also situated in the heart of the Norfolk Broads with beautiful coastline only 10 minutes away, so there was always plenty to see and do.’.

We’re also very lucky to have loyal and lovely clients, when so many practices are struggling, we really do have the best - just look at all our lovely google reviews. We are really social outside of work and finally managed to celebrate Christmas properly last year with a great night out and we even got in a sunny Easter Egg hunt this year too!

Broadland Veterinary Practice

The full-time rota is based on a 40hr week with 1 night per week on call (a sleeping shift where you have the phone at home) and a 1:4 share of the weekends, with the Saturday consults finishing at 12pm. All the on calls are very quiet and Hilary is always ready to back up.  All the usual fees are paid for (RCVS, VDS, BVA/BSAVA) and there is a flexible CPD budget. The salary range is from £35,000 for a newer graduate and up to £70,000 for an experienced surgeon or certificate holder. The practice remains fiercely independent, and would like to remain so, there is a real opportunity of partnership for the right person. Hilary also lives in the old rectory nearby and there is accommodation in a separate annex at the rectory for up to six months to get you settled and on your feet if you need and visa sponsorship is also available.

You will have plenty of time for a good work-life balance and to explore all that beautiful Norfolk has to offer. You will be only a 20 minute drive away from of stunning beaches like Horsey Gap Beach, which in the winter is home to an incredible sight - a colony of grey seals!

We are only 20 minutes from Great Yarmouth and Norwich and you can even get into central London by train within 2 hours.
