Job Details
Alder 24-hour is an RCVS accredited hospital. We have recently undergone a full internal refurbishment and have excellent facilities/equipment such as digital x-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab, endoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, multi-parameter monitors, and CT. We perform a range of routine procedures and advanced orthopedic and soft tissue procedures. We have a dedicated OOH team taking referrals from the other Medivet branches in the region. Our night team ensures a Vet, RVN and PCA are on-site throughout the night, alongside a twilight PCA working till midnight.
As a 24-hour hospital, our caseload can vary from routine boosters, and challenging ECC cases to referral orthopedic and imaging cases. We do have something for everyone!
The role:
As a medical/ward nurse you will be responsible for working closely alongside our hospital vet, providing excellent care to our inpatients, and overseeing the patient care assistants/student nurses working alongside you. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining the highest standards of care and professional performance.
You will liaise with the Head Veterinary Nurses and the Veterinary Surgeons to ensure the best and most effective running of the practice. Maintain cleaning regimes within the hospital to ensure high standards are maintained throughout.
Ensure that patient records and documentation are maintained accurately and medications are given as instructed/prescribed by the Veterinary Surgeon. We value our nurse's clinical development and you will have one-to-one reviews on our learning platform – Fuse.
Certificates/CPD is encouraged and supported, we want our nurses to flourish in their areas of interest.
The rota:
This is a full-time role – 40 hours per week. Working a 4 day week, with a set day off for continuity and consistency- To create an improved work/life balance.
You will work 1 in 8 full weekends (Saturday and Sunday). This is worked into your weekly hours, meaning you work an average of 38 hours per week.
Average of 1-2 weeks of on-call per year.
Average of 1-2 bank holidays per year, with equal time back.
The shifts:
Early – 7 am – 5 pm
Middle – 9 am – 7 pm
Late – 11.30 am – 9.30 pm
The medical nurse rota is a 4-week rolling rota, in those 4 weeks you will complete 1 week of early shifts, 2 weeks of middle shifts, and 1 week of late shifts.
Salary & benefits
Salary £30,000 plus:
RCVS fees paid & BVNA membership paid.
CPD allowance £750 plus 2 days of CPD leave
5 weeks annual leave, plus bank holidays
