Senior Veterinary Surgeon

The Role

Here at Avon Lodge Veterinary Centre, we are looking for a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join the team. The role comprises a mixture of clinical and leadership skills. On average we would expect 3 days a week of clinical work including consulting and operating, and 1 day a week spent on completing rotas, providing reviews and appraisals to the Vet team, providing clinical input for client complaints, and advancing clinical care and standards. As the applicant would be producing the rotas, there is flexibility to change their shift patterns to suit them best.

The rota would include working 40 hours per week, currently worked over 4 days with a fixed day off, though there would be scope to change this if a different shift pattern was preferred. There will be 1 in 4 Saturdays from 8:30am-17:30pm with no out-of-hours work.

The salary for this role is up to £55,000 depending on experience.

About Us

We are a friendly and vibrant team, with a strong focus on work-life balance and clinical excellence! There are two branches with the main branch situated on Wells Road, with nearby shops, cafes, gyms, and parks. There is a smaller branch practice at Bishopsworth just a few minutes’ drive from the main surgery. 

We have a dedicated sterile ops theatre, digital x-rays, rigid and flexible endoscopy, an excellent ultrasound machine including a cardiac probe, and in-house haematology and biochemistry machines. We have RCVS and silver Cat-Friendly accreditation.

Currently, we have a team of 6 Veterinary Surgeons, 5 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 1 Student Veterinary Nurse, 2 Animal Care Assistants, and 5 receptionists. We have two certificate holders, one in soft tissue surgery, and one in feline medicine.

Applicant Requirements

We would prefer a candidate with at least 4 years of experience in practice. A driving licence and transport are preferable as the role is split between the two practices.

Previous management/leadership experience is desirable but not essential. A positive, can-do attitude is also important!
