Veterinary Surgeon required at Ashleigh Vets

The Role

Here at Ashleigh Vets, we are looking for a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join the team. The duties will include carrying out consultations, operations, and inpatients, as expected for the level of experience.

The rota will involve working 40 hours per week over 4 days. The days are a mix of shifts including: 

. 8:00am-3.30pm

. 9:00am-4:00pm

. 9:00am-7.30pm

The weekend work includes working on a Saturday morning from 8:30am-11:30am and Sunday from 10:00am-11:00am and is worked in a 1 in 6-7 rota.

There is a second on-call component is rota’d to give advice and support to the night Vets and occasionally you might need to come and help them.

The Salary will be up to £60,000 depending on experience

The practice is extremely privileged to have cared for pets and their owners of Chorlton, Whalley Range, and the surrounding areas for over 50 years.

We have a high level of equipment and facilities needed to provide the best modern treatment for the well-being and comfort of your pet, with a very good reputation locally. Our equipment includes digital rads, video endoscopy, ultrasound etc.

Ashleigh Vets currently has twelve Veterinary Surgeons, eight Registered Veterinary Nurses, two Trainee Nurses, six Auxilliary Veterinary Nurses, four Receptionists and a Practice Manager.

We have 1 cert holder, 1 diploma holder in exotics, other Vets are sitting their exotic cert and ECC cert.

We are a very friendly and welcoming team. Meeting up outside of work was very common before covid, but we have started to do that again!

. Experienced enough to be able to do most routine surgeries/consults without additional support

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has been a veterinary practice since 1963. For the first twenty-five years Ian McKinlay MRCVS and his wife, Susan, ran the practice together. Since Ian’s retirement 1987 Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has been owned and managed by Aidan Raftery and Bernard Wynne.

In December 2007 Matt Saunby became a third owner of the practice. The practice has now grown to employ five veterinary surgeons, ten qualified veterinary nurses, three auxiliary veterinary nurses and a practice manager .

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre now occupies the whole building, as well as a purpose built extension to the rear. As a larger practice we are able to maintain the high level of equipment and facilities needed to provide the best modern treatment for the well-being and comfort of your pet.

Our high standards have allowed us to attract caring and skilled vets and nurses who wish to work in a challenging and friendly environment. The practice has been approved as having the facilities needed for qualified veterinary surgeon specialist level. Advanced qualifications have been obtained in Canine and Feline Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery by veterinary surgeons working at Ashleigh Veterinary Centre.

Commitment to Continuing Education
Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has over the years proved successful in training many Veterinary Nurses to qualification level, and as an approved nurse training centre (R.C.V.S. approved) has been actively involved in the V.N. course. Several of our nurses have obtained advanced nursing qualifications.

Over the last ten years the Practice has expanded, its Cat and Dog medicine and surgery, with the addition of a Cattery and the development of specialist skills in the treatment of “Exotics” we are now able to offer all our clients a comprehensive veterinary service.
