Job Details

We are an independent 7 vet practice, with hospital status, situated on the stunning North Wales Coast. Our fantastic 2020 grad Zara, who has blossomed with us and can now tackle anything confidently, is leaving us for academia, so we would love to welcome a new vet to our surgery. Whether you’re a brand-new grad looking to shape their career, or a recent grad looking to make a change, we have everything here to support you and allow you to thrive.

The photo below is Pippa, who belongs to Phil, one of the partners, and was taken about 15 mins from his house. It's an incredibly beautiful area between the sea and the mountains of Snowdonia, great for paddle boarding, cycling, mountain biking, walking  and general outdoor stuff. The practice is perfectly situated, being only 40 minutes from the foot of Snowdon and 40 minutes from Chester and the Northwest of England. Non, who joined us from Liverpool Uni last year has fitted right in, she loves cycling and kite surfing and has joined the local cycle group with Peter, another of the partners.

The rota is fantastic so you have lots of time to enjoy life outside work; a set 4-day week with fixed twice weekly 5pm finishes, so you can plan easily, plus an additional Friday afternoon off 1:5. Saturdays are mornings only, and on a 2:5 rota and there is always a second vet on hand. There are also no OOH duties because Vets Now are on site, so no patient transfers and you benefit from the case continuity.

Prospect House Veterinary Centre

We love having new and recent grads; the energy, enthusiasm, and the new ideas you bring, keeps us all forward thinking. In return we provide fantastic support; there is absolutely no sole charge and generally there are 5 vets working at one time so you can always pick their brains. We genuinely enjoy teaching and have 2 vet GDP advisors already in place and have a great track record for supporting our new grads. We have lots of case discussions and never want you to feel alone or struggling with a clinical conundrum. We also have a very experienced and supportive nursing team.

Zara, who is moving on to start an internship at the RVC - I have had a fantastic start to my veterinary career at Prospect House. It is an incredibly supportive practice with a family feel and the caseload is varied, with opportunities to work pup cases in house to a high standard. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 2 years working here and would recommend this practice to anyone looking to further their veterinary career.

Non who joined us last year says -it’s an excellent practice for new graduates, where interests are encouraged, and the quality of work is to a high standard. Staff are friendly and supportive. I enjoy working here and have a great work life balance. I would highly recommend Prospect House to any vet.

There is big practice focus on work life balance, we really want you to be happy in all aspects of your new job. There is complete clinical freedom here and there are no targets to hit. Our feeling is if we have happy vets, they’ll provide great client care, and the clients and patients will be happy too!

There's a great and varied case load including orthopaedics, advanced cardiology through to RSPCA work, so you get to experience a small amount of shelter medicine if you’d like to get involved, as well as the complex medical work ups.  15-minute appointments are extended when needed so you don’t feel rushed.

  • Our New grad salary is £33k up to £50k for a more experienced vet and we are happy to support the Grad to Vet mentorship.
  • Holiday 5 weeks plus bank holidays.
  • We have no specific CPD limits and certificates, and special interests are encouraged and supported.

We want you to really enjoy the start of your career, so if this sounds like the place for you, please call for an informal chat or apply now.

Prospect House Vets

Prospect House Veterinary Clinic and Hospital was founded in 1985 by husband and wife team Nigel Dickinson and Ann Owen who hung up their stethoscopes in April 2022.

The practice has continued as an independent Vets led by the well established remaining partners, Peter Harlow, Helen Sumner and Phil Owen.

The clinic has always fostered a family approach with a mutual support network and we have a great team atmosphere. We are proud of all our staff and feel they are proud to work in the clinic.

We offer an independent family orientated service free from any corporate influence and control.

With two extensions, fully equipped laboratory, theatre, diagnostics room, the clinic has moved with the times and our ethos is always to give our best service to clients, pets and support them through difficult times.

As well as being equipped with modern medical and surgical facilities there is a strong emphasis on preventative healthcare.

Prospect House is an RCVS accredited practice, a training centre for nurses, HAS 24 HOUR ON SITE CARE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VETS NOW and offers an in-house surgical referral service with Ben Walton MRCVS
