ECVS Residency in Equine Surgery, CVS Equine, UK B&W Equine Hospital, Gloucestershire
Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, Kent

CVS Group plc is one of the leading veterinary service providers in the UK. CVS Equine is one of the fastest growing areas within the group, with over 50 sites offering equine work. CVS Equine now employs over 20 equine diploma holders and aims to provide outstanding equine veterinary clinical care, delivered with an excellent client experience, in the best working environment for their employees.

CVS Equine invites applications for a three-year ECVS approved residency programme in Equine Surgery. This is a collaborative programme run by B & W Equine Hospital, in Berkeley Gloucestershire, Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic (BEVC), near Maidstone in Kent, and the University of Nottingham. Both Specialist Equine Veterinary Hospitals are part of the CVS group, and each performs over 400 surgical procedures and over 450 in-depth lameness investigations every year. In addition to the successful candidate's primary supervisor at each hospital, the candidate will benefit from the supervision of 4 other board certified surgeons, another sports medicine diplomat, 5 diplomats in internal medicine and 4 diplomats in diagnostic imaging.

The majority of the programme will be completed at B&W and BEVC, with at least 96 weeks split equally between the two hospitals. The candidate will be involved in the admission, diagnostic investigation and management of routine and emergency surgical and orthopaedic cases, providing a high-quality service to clients and referring veterinary surgeons. Off-clinics time will be dedicated to research, time at other equine hospitals, rotations in anaesthesia, internal medicine, pathology and diagnostic imaging, continued professional development (CPD), and annual leave.

The research component of the programme will be supervised by the University of Nottingham, with the resident registered on a three-year Masters in Veterinary Surgery (MVS). Throughout this research degree, the resident will benefit from education and training with the aim to enable them to become an independent researcher with a range of transferable skills. The resident will be expected to conduct a research project that contributes to the advancement of veterinary surgery and sufficient time will be allowed to collect data, prepare presentations and write the manuscripts for peer reviewed journals.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, team player with excellent communication skills and at least 1-2 years' experience in equine practice. Potential applicants are invited to visit both hospitals prior to submitting an application. The proposed start date of the programme is 1st January 2023.

Please apply via the CVS website, including a CV, a letter of intent and the contact details of 3 referees at www.careerswithcvs.co.uk prior to 5th June 2022.

Interested individuals are encouraged to contact either Jo Suthers (jo.suthers@bwequinevets.co.uk) or Evita Busschers (Evita.Busschers@bellequine.com) informally with any specific questions relating to the programme.
