Veterinary Surgeon

The Role

Here at Dragon Vets, we are on the lookout for a Veterinary Surgeon with some experience to join our dedicated team! You will be working alongside our experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses and inpatient care team, dealing with a wide variety of medical, and surgical cases for a high-end first opinion practice. 

The position involves a 4-day week with 1 weekend in 4 worked, followed by 3 days off. No on-call or night duties are required. 

We offer a competitive salary for this role of £65,000 subject to experience, as well as relocation support of up to £5000 and a £5000 welcome bonus!

About Us

Dragon Vets is located in the heart of Cheltenham, renowned for horse racing, festivals (Jazz, literature, and music), and a thriving bar/restaurant scene. Dragon Vets provide high-end first opinion care for our clients and host an out-of-hours service for most of the practices locally. You will have access to hi-tech equipment including a GE 16-slice CT, high-quality Doppler ultrasound (GE) with a wide range of abdominal and cardiac probes, multiple multi-parameter monitors, rigid and flexible endoscopy, and full lab facilities including blood gas with training provided as required.

We have a great team consisting of 23 Veterinary Surgeons, 30 Registered Veterinary Nurses, and 20 members of Support Staff within the practice. The team regularly meets up outside of work for social activities. These include dog walks, pub nights, cinema nights and bowling events! Two of our staff are also fully qualified mental health first aiders. We have Advanced Practitioners in surgery, medicine, and cardiology. We are a busy first opinion practice, regularly performing referral level work such as TPLO's, thoracotomies, and imaging such as CT, endoscopy, and echocardiography. We have several RCVS Advanced practitioners in small animal surgery, cardiology, and internal medicine and our nurses hold qualifications in nutrition and behaviour.

Applicant Requirements 

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with routine first opinion medical and surgical presentations and be seeking to improve their skills with excellent levels of support. We have a good caseload with a majority of insured clients, allowing for high standards both diagnostically and in terms of treatments. We provide our own OOH/ECC service, avoiding the need to transport patients between different practices. 

Post-Graduate qualifications in medical/surgical fields are desirable although not essential and full support is given to candidates wishing to complete post-grad training/certificates up to AP level.
