The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated team here at Blue House Vets! One of our fabulous nursing team is moving to be closer to her family, so we need someone just as lovely to take her place. Here at Blue House Vets, we value your skills, and we rely on our nurses to take care of blood samples, catheters, X-rays, dressings, lab, medical management, consulting and of course anaesthetics. The nurses also have their dedicated consulting room.

We know most people don’t want to do out of hours or night checks, so we don’t ask you to. Saturdays are 1:3, working 8 am-1 pm, alongside 2 receptionists, a vet, and one other nursing team member (student, VCA or RVN). We are happy to be flexible with hours and shift patterns to suit the right candidate. No out of hours requirement. We value your time – we aim to finish on time, every time, and on the rare occasion it doesn’t happen, or you work into your lunch, we will of course pay you for it or give the time back.

The salary for this role is up to £26,000 depending on experience.

About Us

We are a well-respected, single-site practice based in a semi-rural location in the small town of Biddulph on the Staffordshire/South Cheshire border, with lots of local green spaces and within easy reach of Manchester. We think you deserve to be proud of your practice – we are known for providing excellent care, having a great range of quality equipment and a knowledgeable team. We also think it’s important that we can provide services at a fair cost to our clients. Our practice was Petplan Practice of the Year 2019, having won 2 previous awards, and our head nurse was also a finalist for Nurse of the Year 2018. We are also finalists in Team of the Year 2022 in the IVC Awards!

The practice environment is planned to emphasise the well-being of staff and patients with a large airy reception, consulting, and operating rooms with natural light throughout. Other excellent facilities we have are;

  • Cat only waiting room/consult room (we are a cat-friendly silver certified practice after all!)
  • Separate dog ward with 6 large, walk-in kennels and an isolation ward
  • On-site acupuncture service in our unique woodland room
  • Large prep room, two surgical theatres with ante room and changing area
  • Separate dental theatre including dental x-ray
  • Dedicated euthanasia room with a sofa, fireplace, and soft lighting
  • Fantastic equipment including digital imaging, multiparameter GA monitoring, tonopen, Blood pressure monitors etc
  • Option to take patients to a local practice for CT scan so you can follow your own cases
  • Large training and meeting room
  • Clinical office for vets and nurses so you can work at a desk if you need to
  • Private practice garden with picnic table and sun loungers so you can eat lunch outside if you want (currently needs some green fingers but will be lovely soon - wildflower beds for bees already planted!)
  • Fully equipped staff room including espresso machine, Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser, dishwasher, table to eat at, rocking chair and massage chair (there is even a pool table, a cross trainer, and a shower!
  • National Trust properties are close at hand if you like to get out of the practice over lunchtime

We think you should be able to love the environment you work in - there aren’t many practices that look and feel like ours. Have a look at our website for more info www.bluehousevets.com.

About the Team and Culture

Our fantastic team is made up of 9 vets who work across a variety of hours and days, one of our vets has a PGCert in surgery, one provides acupuncture, another is doing his ophthalmology certificate and yet another is doing cardiology. Our vets have a wide range of experience from our recent new graduate addition to over 20 years of experience! Our qualified, extremely competent, Nursing Team is made up of 5, plus a student and VCA. Our head nurse holds a certificate in exotics, and we also have a variety of interests and experience including wound management, anaesthesia, and nutrition. As if our incredible team wasn’t enough! We also have visiting specialists in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and ultrasound.

We are a training practice, with a maximum of 1 student at a time, to ensure the highest quality of training and supervision. We are a cohesive and supportive team - whether brainstorming on how we can help a patient, celebrating our successes or understanding when things are tough. We value and listen to the opinions and experiences of all our team members and have regular clinical meetings within working hours to allow everyone to have input.

We like to involve ourselves in the local community and have taken part in mud runs to raise funds for a local mental health unit and Vetlife. Our next adventure is the Colour Obstacle Rush in Manchester in July. We also visit local schools and one of the directors is a STEM ambassador helping promote the sciences and supporting schools and community groups. We are also a host practice for Pet Blood Bank.

We like to be part of the team - we all work together to get the job done and provide a great service. We are inclusive and supportive - none of us is perfect but we will try to help however we can. If you want to join in on a Go Ape adventure, come to the pub quiz or come out for a great meal – but if you don’t that’s fine too!

We could tell you all sorts about our practice – and if you look on our website you will get a much better idea of what we are about - but we think it can be best described by one of our vets:
