Village Vet are a well-established, RCVS accredited, small animal primary care practice that covers the locations of London, Hertfordshire, and Cambridgeshire. Alongside all our primary care services we also have four 24-hour continuous care hospitals made up of our highly certified clinicians and practice staff to ensure the highest form of veterinary care for the benefit of pets and clients alike. 

Your role and responsibilities

Due to an internal promotion, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the Village Vet, St Albans team as a Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse.

The hospital provides 24hr patient care and is located in an area boasting great countryside and unparalleled access to London.

The purpose-built hospital and has been awarded ‘Hospital and Emergency Centre’ status under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme and is very well-equipped with full digital diagnostic facilities, laboratory, operating theatre, separate dog and cat wards and ample parking on site.

Working enthusiastically with your team you will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager to help maintain a happy, efficient working environment, taking an active part in clinical duties for approximately 95% of your working hours, including a full share of the on-call rota.5% of the role will be allocated for administration duties that come with the role

You will demonstrate an excellent work protocol in all nursing duties and, in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Manager, oversee the nurse team, provision of care and help develop protocols to ensure a standardized and evidence based approach to nursing.You will support the Clinical Nurse manager to ensure patients are managed as effectively as possible from a nursing perspective to support the profitability and further growth of the practice.

In addition, you would be required to undertake some line management responsibilities, providing feedback to the Clinical Nursing Manager who can ensure mentoring, coaching and development discussions are implemented where needed and Liaising with the Clinical Nurse Manager/Senior Leadership Team to support the identification and implementation of learning, development and CPD that is aligned to the practice vision for growth. You would also be working with and providing guidance for our Patient Care Assistant and Student Veterinary Nurses, so a Clinical Coach qualification and a passion for mentoring would also be desirable.

We seek an excellent communicator who is highly organised, with with at least 1-2 years post registration experience. Previous leadership experience is desirable but not essential as support and guidance is provided by the Regional Management Team and the Linnaeus Veterinary Nursing Support Team.

Hours: Full time, 42 hr/wk, Monday – Friday

1:4 Saturdays, 1:9 Sundays
