The Role

Here at Town & Country Veterinary Group, we are looking for a confident and experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our team. The role will involve undertaking a share of consultations and surgery, although the balance of these can happily be discussed with our Clinical Director to suit your ideal role. An area of interest would be encouraged, and funding for certificates can be available. There is plenty of scope for somebody with a special interest to receive internal referrals to build their case log and work towards further qualifications.

We are looking for a full-time Vet, although part-time candidates are encouraged to apply also. The hours of work will be from 9:00am to 7:00pm, four days a week. You will have a rolling place in our Saturday rota (8:00am-5:00pm) alongside 4 other colleagues and gain a lieu day the following week for Saturday work. There are no out of hours with this role.

The salary for this role is up to £55,000 depending on experience.

About Us

Town & Country Veterinary Group is a longstanding trio of practices in Blackburn, Whalley and Clayton-Le-Moors in Lancashire. This vacancy is predominantly at our busy Clayton-Le-Moors surgery, you can also benefit from time at our city-centre Blackburn location, and our picturesque market town Whalley branch. At both Blackburn & Clayton-Le-Moors we possess digital x-ray, a separate theatre and prep area, surgical electrocautery, haematology, and biochemistry capabilities in-house, a modern laptop ultrasound machine based out of Blackburn, and the option of a visiting specialist ultrasound service at all sites for those more complex cases. Whalley serves as a branch feeding more complex cases into these two but does still possess a biochemistry machine and space for minor surgical procedures. We are within easy traveling distance of cities such as Manchester and Preston, whilst also towns such as Ramsbottom and Clitheroe, depending on whether you are into jam scones, raves, or somewhere in between!

One of our strongest suits is our lovely, well-established team. We have trained all of our own nurses and a number of them are still with us after decades! Working alongside our Senior Nurses are our newer qualified RVNS and Student Veterinary Nurse team. We have a supportive and highly experienced Vet team including prior experience of orthopaedics, exotics, ECC work, and soft tissue surgery. There is a whole team culture of trying to do our best for patients and their owners, whilst making coming to work as enjoyable for one another as we can.

We have three full-time Vets and three part-time Vets, a strong new graduate already on board for September, and are seeking to add a fifth full-time Veterinary Surgeon. Our Head Nurse is supported by a Deputy Head Nurse, five other Registered Veterinary Nurses, and 3 Student Veterinary Nurses.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for a confident and friendly Veterinary Surgeon who will enjoy coming in to build relationships with clients and colleagues, provide exceptional clinical standards, and relish the caseload this busy surgery will bring. Whilst case discussions are encouraged, and wider support is readily available, we require a vet who would be able to work confidently in sole charge when needed, handle most general practice presentations, and take the lead in organising their time and team. A certificate holder would be valued, someone wanting to work towards a certificate is also encouraged to have a discussion with our Clinical Director Joe on what support we can provide.

Company

Founded 15 years ago by Pamela Cartwright and Mike Rimmer our veterinary practice has established itself into the local communities and provides care to thousands of pets each year. We know as well as anyone that you consider your pet to be an important member of your family. That is why the whole team here at the practice work hard to provide the very best veterinary care services.

Town and Country is a first opinion Veterinary Surgery with five full time and one part time Veterinary Surgeons and a dedicated team of both Qualified and and Student Veterinary Nurses. We are a caring, approachable team and hope that we can help and advise you wherever needed.

At Town and Country we like to focus on preventative treatment as well as seeing your pets at times of need. The nurses hold free clinics on all aspects of pet ownership and preventative health care, with weight clinics, adolescent checks, dental checks, older pet checks to name but a few. We feel these clinics are excellent idea for a number of reasons. It gives us the opportunity to get to know your pet individually and know their personality. It also benefits your pet, realising that going to the vets can actually be a pleasant experience! Just popping in for a weight check and chat with the nurse can make your pet enjoy coming to the surgery which can make an unavoidable visit much less stressful for you and your pet.
