About us

We’re looking for a small animal vet (SA) to join our friendly team on the Somerset Levels.

You will work alongside 5 full time vets, a large team of nurses and a dedicated administrative/reception team.

Our clinical focus is on preventive health, aiming for high quality patient and client care.

We are lucky to be working in modern, spacious, purpose-built, well-equipped facilities which have two SA operating theatres, a separate dental theatre and x-ray facilities. All mod cons are available including ultrasound, digital x-ray (DR system), dental x-ray, video endoscope alongside a newly, well-equipped in-house laboratory.

We are an RCVS GP accredited practice as well as recognised cat and rabbit friendly.

We are incredibly proud to continue being an independent practice, and are actively and continuously developing our services and culture to meet common goals, both environmentally and socially. We, already source many of our consumables from sustainable supplies, promoting less environmentally toxic products and processes such as recycling and composting waste.

We are a nurse training practice and have great interest in individuals’ development in all departments.

Location

We are located in famous Glastonbury, on the Somerset levels within an hour of the cities of Bristol and Bath.

The Role

You would be working a 4 day week, 8am to 6pm with an hour for lunch plus 1 in 3 weekends (mornings only) - 9am to 1pm Saturdays and 10am to 1pm Sundays.  This equates to approximately 38 hours per week.

There are no out of hours duties.

Your workload will by 100% small animal and will include a range of first opinion consultations, medical work-ups and surgery. Standard 20-minute appointments are made for all small animal medical cases (pre booked appointments only).

There is flexibility within the team to support and promote individual interests and ideas.  The desire to pursue CPD options and postgraduate qualifications are fully supported and funded.

Our team work brilliantly together to ensure everyone gets an hours’ lunch break and we plan dedicated periods for admin tasks such as case follow ups and lab reports.  Our working days are well structured so that we share the vet workload as fairly as possible, with good flexibility, to allow for emergencies and development.

Successful Candidate
Ideally you will have 2 or more years practice experience with a strong interest in first opinion general practice. We would however consider a new graduate and in which case you will receive structured mentoring.  We are a GDP registered practice with 2 mentors.

An interest in small animal preventative medicine and surgery is vital.

Excellent communication skills are essential, along with a desire to provide the highest quality of care.

Further information about practice

We are located in the historic town of Glastonbury, on the beautiful Somerset Levels in the South West of England. Our seven vets are supported by a dedicated team of nurses and office staff who keep things running smoothly and cheerfully. Our philosopy is simple - the animal comes first. Every pet which is treated here is treated with respect and consideration, just as if it were one of our own.

Our custom built, specialist premises are a bit of a local land mark, easily visible as they are just off the bypass on the edge of the town, roughly halfway between Street and Glastonbury. We have a wide catchment area with clients coming from the surrounding villages as well as other centres such as Bridgwater, Somerton and Shepton Mallet.
