The Opportunity:
We are offering an opportunity to join our out of hours (OOH) team in the Hospital for Small Animals (HfSA) at a very exciting time. You will work in a “pod” of three RVNs, working in a 4 shifts on, 8 shifts off pattern. You will cover each other’s annual leave and accruing overtime for this additional shift cover. Due to our ever-increasing caseload, we now have 3 night nurse “pods” currently, and more are coming soon!

At the HfSA, we are open to emergencies 24/7 and offer a friendly and supportive working atmosphere, with a strong tradition of research and innovation. We value our team of OOH and ECC nurses highly, offering excellent education and development opportunities.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about providing state-of-the-art nursing. You will also be highly motivated to take your career forward by helping us develop and teach nursing within our hospital.

You will gain:
•    Comprehensive training and induction with friendly, knowledgeable staff.
•    Excellent university pension scheme.

•    This post is graded as a UE05.
Your skills and attributes for success:
•    The jobholder must be a RCVS registered veterinary nurse (RVN).
•    Prior experience working within either a veterinary emergency care setting, ICU, or referral hospital is advantageous- however, full internal training will also be provided.
•    Proactive work ethic and excellent communication skills are essential

The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies was founded in 1823 by William Dick

William Dick
William Dick was an outstanding practitioner who made great strides in establishing veterinary education in Scotland. Besides setting up the School in 1823, he was appointed Veterinary Surgeon in Scotland to Queen Victoria in 1844.

By the time of his death in 1866, the 818 students he had taught were to be found throughout the world. Among them were the founders of veterinary schools in Glasgow, Liverpool, Ireland, Canada, the USA and Australia.

Clyde Street Veterinary College
In the autumn of 1829 William Dick’s lectures were given in Clyde Street, probably in the old building at number 8. It was in Clyde Street that Dick first trained as a farrier at his father's forge.
