Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team. The full time role is a 4 day week with 1 in 3 Saturday mornings. There is no OOH. The day begins at 8.15am with inpatient rounds for any patients returning from Vets Now and admitting patients for the day’s operations alongside our nursing team. We offer 15 minute appointments or multiples of this depending upon the case need. Clinic times run from 8.30am until 12pm with appropriate rest breaks, 2pm until 4 pm then 5pm until 6.45pm, 6pm on a Friday. Typically each vet will have at least one full operating session each week when they will start on the operation list first thing in the morning with help from the consulting vets starting mid-morning.

There is a real team approach to helping with the operation workload so it is completed in good time. Rest breaks tend to be taken together which engenders a good sense of team spirit. Cases can be discussed and this helps support vets with their work load and sharing of knowledge and experiences. The surgery typically has 3-4 vets working each day with 2 vets on a Saturday morning so you will never work alone. Salary £40,000 to £55,000 PA depending on experience. Welcome bonus and relocation package on offer! Potential for progression to a more senior position.

The Hadleigh clinic is situated in the heart of Hadleigh high street. Hadleigh is a small Suffolk market town with a diverse and thriving range of independent shops and amenities including, doctors surgery, leisure centre with gym and swimming pool, library and supermarkets. The surgery is a Grade 2 listed building with a modern purpose built extension encompassing two operating theatres, separate dog and cat kennelling, prep area and diagnostic imaging suite. The building is fully air-conditioned with piped anaesthetic gases. It also has a separate isolation kennelling area in our enclosed car park.

We are RCVS GP status accredited, a Cat Friendly Practice and a TP Nurse Training centre. The facilities include digital x-ray, ultrasound, video endoscopy/bronchoscopy, fully equipped laboratory facilities and multi parameter monitoring equipment, radio surgery, Class IV K laser, Tonometry and Bair Hugger. Fully trained reception team, 5 RVN's 4 of whom were trained in-house. Two full time vets, the advertised position would be to increase this to 3 full time vets. Part time vet team of 4-5 vets most having worked full time with us until having a family.

Richard Pettit is the Clinical Director in this branch having worked at Highcliff for 27 years. He has a special interest in Orthopaedics and regularly undertakes TTA and stifle surgeries and fracture repairs requiring few orthopaedic referrals. We have a part time vet who is an Advanced Practitioner in Diagnostic Imaging working each week. We actively encourage certificate study having several vets currently enrolled. We also have a visiting Cardiology Diplomat helping us improve our overall cardiology knowledge and care.

We are a friendly and sociable practice enjoying meeting up outside of work and have been lucky to have people returning to work for us over the years. Feedback from staff members always highlights the high level of support and encouragement that they have received from Highcliff during their time working with us.

We perform work for several local cat charities and regularly treat Greyhound Trust dogs. We also attend the local Hadleigh and Tendring Agricultural Shows and very much feel part of the local community with the practice having been established for more than one hundred years.

Our ethos is to provide the very best first opinion service that we can to our valued clients. We are lucky to be well served with nearby referral practices with which we have long established, good working relationships.

Company

The Highcliff Veterinary Practice is a long-established reputable local practice serving south Suffolk and the Essex-border area. We offer many products and services to help domestic pets. Whether you have a hamster or a Great Dane, we are here to help!

The origins of Highcliff Veterinary Practice can be traced from the first half of the nineteenth century, from the Grimwade family of Farriers, Horse Doctors and Insurers. They lived and worked in Kersey, and as was traditional at this time, a horse's tail hung outside the house to enable clients to recognise the trade. This still remains today hanging from the eves of a house near the ford in the village. The practice moved to Hadleigh after the Second World War. Three generations of the Lemon family (George, Alfred and Donald), worked locally from 1870 until Donald retired in 1977.

By this time the practice had grown considerably. A branch in Ipswich had been established from partner Roy Hullis' home in St Johns Rd and this moved to new premises in Cliff Lane in the early 1970s. The name was changed from Lemon, Sutherland, Ryde and partners to Highcliff Veterinary Practice, the name deriving from the premises at High Street, Hadleigh and Cliff Lane, Ipswich.

The Ipswich surgeries have been under separate ownership outwith Highcliff Veterinary Practice since the Summer of 2014 meaning the practice is now composed of branches in Hadleigh and at Factory Lane, Cattawade, Brantham near Manningtree.
