The Role
We are looking for a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join us in a Deputy Head Nurse role. The day to day duties will be that of an RVN specifically to assist vets with their work in theatre including admits and discharges and with inpatients, consults and visits. In addition, we run full time daily nurse clinics.

Our nurses work 4.5 days a week with variable shift patterns that can be flexible and designed to meet the candidates and business needs. The practice is open 8am to 7pm. Weekend work is only Saturday mornings 8am to 1pm. We run our own out of hours service in conjunction with the vet and nurse team at our other site and currently we operate a 1 in 10 weekend rota. Salary range £25,000 - £27,000 dependent on experience.

As deputy head nurse there are specific roles that the Head and Deputy share out. Currently the Deputy is responsible for radiography including acting as our RPS, responsible for maintenance of the dentistry equipment, responsible for our in house laboratory equipment and services. There is the potential for involvement in training nurses and nursing assistants and other roles according to experience and interests.

About Us
We are a small animal only site, part of a large mixed practice in Somerset. At our site we have 6 vets, some part time and 6 in our nursing team comprising of a mixture of RVN, SVN, and VCA. We have a further 7 people in our support team. We have 4 consulting rooms, one specifically for nurses. We have a prep room and separate theatre with multi-parameter monitoring of anaesthesia. We have ultrasound, endoscopes, digital x-ray and in house laboratory.

We treat all our patients as individuals and aim to provide the best care possible for each one.

Yeovil itself has everything you need in one place and good links to the coast and Bristol, Bath and Exeter cities. We have 6 vets, some part time, 6 in our nursing team plus 7 support team members. One of our vets hold the small animal medicine certificate and 2 vets have undertaken the small animal surgical modular training so we are often approaching surgical cases that not every GP vet would be doing.

We have an open communicative culture with a special emphasis on physical and mental health and wellbeing. We have created a workplace where it is possible to thrive and develop in the way each individual wants to progress. We have regular individual team meetings as well as whole practice and clinical meetings.

Applicant Requirements
You need to be a qualified RVN for this role and feel that you have enough experience in practice to support a learning and development culture. You need to like people; both within the team and clients too and you need to have respect for the individuals you meet and their pets.
It is essential you like all aspects of veterinary nursing and are at a point in your career where further development into specific areas and management is possible. We want to support candidates who want to bring the best care to our patients.

Company

Delaware Veterinary Group has been established for over 100 years. The original surgeries were at Delaware House, Castle Cary and Market Street, Yeovil.

The new purpose-built premises were opened in Castle Cary on a green field site in July 1999 with facilities for companion, equine and farm animals. The new surgery in Yeovil was established in 1979 on Hendford Hill and has been expanded to meet the demands of Veterinary Practice well into the new millennium.

In October 2000 a new branch surgery was opened in Stoke-sub-Hamdon to extend and improve the service offered to the area by holding daily surgeries in the village.

The Practice employs eleven veterinary surgeons at Castle Cary and five at Yeovil. Together we provide a broad base of experience and expertise, which enables us to offer first class treatment and advice for all species of animals.
