The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join us at Shield Vets, Hedge End Veterinary Centre!

We are looking for a qualified vet to work full time with us, ideally working 36-40 hours across 4/4.5 days. You will be required to work 2:5 Saturday mornings but there is no out of hours work.

The salary for this role is up to £50,000 depending on experience.

 About Us
Shield Veterinary Centre is across two sites, one in Hedge End between Portsmouth and Southampton and one in the beautiful medieval village of Bishop's Waltham - home to a famous medieval palace. Both clinics are well equipped with ultrasound, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, endoscopy and Idexx laboratory machines (Catalyst and Procyte) and we have two consulting rooms at each site as well as dedicated theatres.

However, the best thing about our clinic is not our equipment, it is our amazing team! There are 6 FTE veterinary surgeons with experience ranging from 3-36 years qualified, all of which are excellent, all-round clinicians. We have 10 FTE nurses across the two sites allowing us to have a 3:1 support to surgeon ratio. We have 4 FTE receptionists across the two sites and multiple official veterinarians.

If you like walking and cycling, there is no place better than the New Forest, more into paddle-boarding? We have excellent rivers to do so and the ocean!

Company

The Centre was established in 1986, as David Frere-Cook fulfilled his long held ambition of setting up and running his own Veterinary Practice.

Still living today in the house in which he was born; David qualified from Bristol University in 1981 and immediately joined the Royal Army Veterinary Corps for a three year short service commission. He then spent two years as an assistant in a small animal practice in North Hampshire before putting up his plate, as the first residential practising veterinary surgeon, in Bishop's Waltham.

The rest, they say is history. The Practice has grown steadily over the last twenty years. A major structural expansion and upgrading of facilities in 1997 coincided with the shedding of the equine side of the practice and it's evolution into an entirely small animal practice.
