Looking to join a truly happy independent practice in 2022 to get the New Year off to a flying start? Dive into a job with a great work-life balance ! Yes this really is me in the picture- going for a dip just 1 mile from the practice !
We are a 5-vet independent practice based In Somerset looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to come and join us. We are a happy practice, yes I know every vet job ad says that, but we really are! We all enjoy coming to work, enjoy being vets and get on brilliantly. There really are no skeletons in the cupboard and people stay with us a long time. Like most practices post the great Covid pet purchase, we’re busy, so we’d love a 6th vet to join us and grow the team.
We are a good mix of ages and experience; the practice is owned by me, Julian; I started here in 2005, I enjoy mentoring new graduates and helping their professional development and I have already completed my Vet GDP training. Hermione has been with us over 10 years, Rachel over 4 years and Jemima since qualifying in 2019 and Aeisha in 2020. Both Jemima and Aeisha, as recent graduates have done so well since joining us, and we would happily support another recent graduate because we can offer the support and enthusiasm to really nurture you. For example, do you find dentals stressful? We will make sure this isn’t the case and will teach how to do a local block and a flap properly so that a dental never needs to cause you a headache again. It’s so important to get the right support at the start of your career and we can do that. Equally we would also be able to support a more experienced vet develop their interests. We have a fantastic practice manager, Sharon and a very experienced team of RVNs, SVNs and VCAs. We are also the only independent practice in Somerset to have earned RCVS awards. Being judged as good for team & professional responsibility, shows you that we value our colleagues for being a great talented team.
We have all the usual kit including dental x-ray and a great ultrasound and have a good mix of cases. We can perform many surgeries in house including a variety of orthopaedic procedures. Bristol vet school is also very nearby should we need to refer.
Full time is 4-days a week (a 3-day week is also a possibility). Occasional equine work is optional with no equine out of hours. There are approximately six weekends on call a year and six weekend clinics (no on call but short clinics Saturday 9-12 and Sunday 10-12) both fully supported by me and the rest of the team. We are able to sponsor visas for overseas vets and we can also provide accommodation for you.
We have all the usual benefits and certificates are encouraged and funded. In addition, we are big supporters of Luke Gamble and his work at WVS. Next year I am planning on taking part as a mentor at a neutering clinic in Chiang Mai and we would be very keen to support our team to take part in a fully funded charity trip with WVS.
Our practice is less than an hour from Bristol, Bath and Exeter, we enjoy the best of the West without being isolated. Langport, where the majority of the role will be located, is a small rural town in the heart of the Somerset levels. Street is most well-known for its proximity to Glastonbury and for Clark’s village. We are surrounded by stunning open countryside and are 1.5 hours from surfing beaches and 2h from London.
If you would like to discuss the role further, please do not hesitate to pick up the phone for an informal pre -application chat or if you’d like to apply, please apply to CV@vettimes.co.uk or press the apply button now.
