Veterinary Surgeon -Small and Exotics Position

Anton Vets was founded in 2010 in Andover, Hampshire and has grown rapidly with more than 10 vets and 15 RVN/SVNs at its state-of-the art facilities in the centre of town.

Anton tortoise CT This success has been based on an ethos of allowing vets and nurses to thrive and develop their interests to maximise their capabilities and an award-winning client care approach- we believe in treating each client and pet as individuals and with the same care and respect as treating our own pets. Case continuity is mandatory!

We are very proud to provide our own out-of-hours service so we can continue this care 24/7. To make this work better for all we have a team of junior vets who provide out-of-hours in-patient care and immediate emergency triage and care while our senior vets provide back-up support for them. On call is based on a 1:4 rota and you would be working with either small animals or exotics (but not both!). You would have a 4 1/2 day working week with an additional half day every four weeks giving a long weekend off.

CPD is essential and we have a very open policy where 35 hours is a minimum…not a maximum! If it’s good for you and the practice- we will fund more each year. The catch- please share your learning with your colleagues! We also fund BSAVA and RCVS memberships each year.

Remuneration is competitive with salaries between £38,000 and £60,000 per annum depending on experience and level of support required. We are happy to accommodate flexible and part-time working wherever possible but do need applicants who can join the out-of-hours rota.

We are busy and life can be stressful but we can provide a strong supportive team to work in, the opportunity to achieve good job satisfaction, and very friendly clients(mostly!). If you come and work with us you will develop your clinical skills and have the opportunity to work up cases to a very high level. You will be supported in further studies and in achieving clinical certificates or Masters in veterinary practice. While we encourage independent working there is always support from senior colleagues at all hours.

We are very inclusive and support diversity. We also are licensed to sponsor overseas visa applications.

And all this in a beautiful part of Hampshire in easy reach of the coast, London and most of the country should you ever tire of our countryside and historic local cities.Anton dwarf crocodile

The small animal and exotics position is designed for anyone interested in studying for Certificate in Zoological Medicine, which will be funded by the clinic.

Anton Vets is a well-established referral centre for exotic species as well as seeing these on first opinion basis. We also work with seven zoological collections. Basically, anything goes and we see everything from invertebrates to camelids!

This is an opportunity to work with, and learn from, a very experienced team led by a RCVS Advanced Practitioner who publishes and lectures widely on exotics and small mammals.

You will be able to investigate cases fully and we have a very advanced ward facilities to enable proper care of (almost!) all species.

What we need from you…

  • 2 years’ minimum experience in small animal medicine
  • An interest in exotics and small mammals- you don’t need experience as you will gain that very quickly…and we are very happy to teach!
  • An open and enquiring mind and a desire to push boundaries- both your own and those of exotics’ medicine.

We will provide a supportive team to help you achieve your goals!
