Avian Exotic Residency

Great Western Exotics

Great Western Exotics has a well-established residency program and we are recruiting for a resident starting from April 2022. Great Western Exotics is a seven vet 100% exotic animal practice. The case load includes Avian, Small mammal, Reptile and multiple zoological collections.

The hospital is undergoing an exciting period of full renovation – due to Complete December 2021, and is enviously equipped. Four dedicated exotic animal wards, two theaters, computer tomography, fluoroscopy, both rigid/flexible endoscopy, ultrasonography and radiography suits.

The residency is a three-year program – structure includes clinical work, research, externship and study time. The resident will be supervised by ECZM specialists, and supported by a team of senior clinicians, interns and nurses.

Candidates will have to meet the minimum requirement stipulated by ECZM. You must be, or eligible to be, a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. As a minimum have completed a rotating internship or completed two years in general practice.

Residents will be expected to participate in a OOH rota – including weekends.

In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK.
