The Role

We are looking for a part time Veterinary Surgeon to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave (permanent candidates also welcomed!) This is a very flexible role and we are happy to fit the hours around your other responsibilities. The most important thing to us is that we get the right person to fit in with our fabulous team. We need you to work alternate Saturdays or Sundays. Other than that, we are happy to discuss hours that work for you whether that be school hours only, evenings only, several short days or fewer longer days – tell us what would work for you! There is no out of hours in this role. Somebody with a consulting bias would fit in beautifully to our team but there is also opportunity to get involved in our surgical department. Within our team we have exotic certificate holders and there would be the opportunity to get involved with these more unusual species.  However, an interest in exotics is not essential as we have plenty of dogs and cats to keep you busy.

Salary range £33,000 - £55,000 (FTE) depending on experience.

About Us

The successful applicant will split their time between our RCVS accredited small animal hospital and purpose built well pet clinic, both based in lovely North Leeds, about a mile apart. We are well equipped with CT, digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, multiparameter monitoring, ventilator and separate species wards. At the hospital we have staff on site 24 hours a day and provide an emergency service for our own clients and those of our local member practices including our 2 branch practices. Our main strength is our amazing team of highly qualified and skilled individuals. We have certificate holders in surgery, medicine, ECC and exotics and we pride ourselves on delivering an outstanding level of patient care and customer service. We have an open dialogue about mental health and all work to contribute towards a lovely and supportive workplace. We are situated in North Leeds, close to Leeds Bradford airport and within easy reach of Leeds, Harrogate and York. It is also easy to escape to the countryside with the beautiful Yorkshire Dales close by.

We are a large but close-knit team. We have certificate holders in surgery, medicine, ECC and exotics and see a mix of first opinion and referral work. This provides an interesting and diverse caseload. We are looking for someone who thrives on working within a team - we love discussing cases and working collaboratively. As well as daily ward rounds, time is rota’d every week for the vets to have a case discussion meeting. As Covid restrictions lift we have enjoyed seeing each other outside of work. We recently had a summer BBQ and some of the team took part in a charity dragon boat race.

Applicant Requirements

You must be a qualified vet eligible to work in the UK. There is no sole charge and we can offer plenty of support so this role may suit a new or recently qualified vet or someone returning from a career break. It would be equally suitable for a more experience vet looking for a diverse and stimulating caseload.

Company

Holly House has been providing North Leeds with quality veterinary care since 1994 and the North of England with dedicated exotic care facilities for over ten years. We also provide our own 24 hour on-site emergency service so there is no need to travel to other branches out-of-hours. Our emergency service can be accessed by calling the usual number at any time, day or night.

In 2010, Holly House succeeded in its dream of becoming the first Veterinary Hospital in North Leeds. The Practice Standards Scheme is a voluntary initiative set up by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), which aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care. The RCVS has inspected us and agreed that our facilities, equipment and also our levels of care and expertise reach Hospital standard.

The practice is owned by Stuart McArthur and run by him and a dedicated team of Vets, Nurses and Reception staff. You can find out more about our staff and the qualifications they hold in our about us section.
