The Role
We are currently looking for a night-time Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team at Sheriffs Highway Vets in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. This is a full-time role working 7 nights on and 7 nights off. Part-time options are also available, for example 7-on, 21-off with or without day shifts in between but we are happy to discuss alternatives.

Flexibility and other part time options are also available. Accommodation can be provided away from the practice and there is also a bedroom with en-suite bathroom for the night shifts.  Salary up to £70,000 DOE.

The role will involve working alongside dedicated on-site Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Nursing assistants. Our 24-hour service and 'one team' ethos provides for exceptional continuity of care, with case handovers at the beginning and end of every day allowing plenty of time for clinical discussion. Our Registered Veterinary Nurses handle client calls, triage and the majority of patient care through the night allowing opportunity for the vet to sleep.

We offer a relocation allowance up to £5,000 and a welcome bonus up to £3,000.

About Us
Sheriffs Highway Veterinary Hospital is an RCVS Tier 3 Hospital in Gateshead. Our night-time emergency and critical care team supports our busy hospital, 3 branch surgeries and an additional 3 partner practices. Our clinical team is led by Advanced Practitioners and Certificate holders in surgery and medicine. Several of our Veterinary Surgeons are working towards Certificates/AP status, with one of our night Veterinary Surgeons working towards an Emergency and Critical Care certificate. Our hospital is very well equipped, with dedicated and advanced surgical and medical facilities and equipment. We have a wealth of emergency and critical care essentials, including comprehensively equipped laboratory, on site and a very good working relationship with other local out of hours providers and the Pet Blood Bank. Our Gateshead location is ideal for access to the coast and countryside of the Northeast, in addition to all the culture and amenities of Newcastle and Gateshead.

We are a team of 12 daytime Veterinary Surgeons, 2 night-time Veterinary Surgeons, 16 Veterinary Nurses and 6 Nursing Assistants. We have an Advanced Practitioner in surgery and a medicine certificate-holder, with several vets also working towards advanced qualifications (including one night vet in the final year of the BSAVA ECC Certificate). The integration of our daytime and night-time teams ensures optimal patient care and fantastic teamwork. This ethos is important to us, with frequent socials and pizza fuelled in-house CPD (both lunchtime and evening). We are a host practice for the Pet Blood Bank and work with several local charities.

Applicant Requirements
Our ideal candidate will be experienced in small animal clinical work and be confident in dealing with emergency medical and surgical cases. Experience in sole-charge emergency and critical care work would be an asset. We would also welcome applications from existing certificate-holders or those working towards an advanced qualification. Recent graduate applications will also be considered for this role.
