The Role

We are looking for a full-time permanent Veterinary Surgeon (though we would consider part-time) who is keen to work up cases with good case continuity and support as required, provides excellent client care and has good communication skills. 4 days of work for full-time (9am-6.30pm) plus a share in Saturday rota (currently 1 in 4) and a share in the weekend and evening in-patient rota. Our emergency out of hours is undertaken by VetsNow, though we continue to look after in-patients. The ideal candidate should be keen to get to the bottom of conditions, provides excellent client care and has good communication skills. The successful candidate should consider CPD essential to their role and should be keen to update their knowledge and skills regularly.

Salary range £31,000 - £50,000 dependent on experience.

About Us

The Anglesey Pet Clinic is a 100% small animal veterinary surgery. We have a loyal client base. We see lots of dogs, cats and exotics. Once a week we run a one-hour RSPCA clinic on behalf of the local RSPCA branch. Our equipment is extensive and includes modern IDEXX in-house laboratory (catalyst and procyte), digital AGFA CR X-ray, video endoscope and bronchoscope, colour Doppler ultrasound with ECG, tonopen, slit lamp - all of these would allow candidates to work up cases fully in-house. We have a varied workload that ranges from the standard (e.g. vaccinations, microchipping, neutering, dentals, in-house laboratory, X-ray interpretation pet passports, pregnancy diagnosis with ultrasound, hip and elbow scoring, PAT dog assessments), to more specialist services and treatments, such as chemotherapy, echocardiograms, ECG, video endoscope and bronchoscope for non-invasive investigations and advanced surgeries. The principal vet has a particular interest in small animal surgery and orthopaedics (regularly carrying out TTAs) and holds a PGCertSAS. We have lovely and supportive nurses. We consider CPD an essential part of a veterinary surgeon's role and have an extensive library of books and journals within a quiet spacious office. We are located in beautiful Anglesey just 5 minutes from the beach and a 45 minute’ drive from the Snowdonia Mountains.

We are seeking to add a 4th vet to our team. We have four lovely nurses and a practice manager. Our clinical director holds a PGCert SAS and frequently undertakes advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures and is happy to pass on his knowledge.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for a veterinary surgeon who is in good standing with the RCVS and comfortable with routine consults and routine neutering and dental surgery. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, should be able to write clear and concise clinical notes, should be computer literate, committed to collegiality and should have good time management skills. The individual should be proactive in their learning and keen to develop their knowledge and practical and intellectual skills through CPD. Given our location near the beach and in short driving distance to the Snowdonia Mountain range, this position might be particularly interesting to candidates with an interest in water sports, rock climbing, hiking, riding, etc.
