Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon - Full Time- Staffordshire

Shires Vets are looking to welcome a small animal Vet Surgeon to join our fantastic, supportive team.

Shires Vets was established over 70 years ago and we are a mixed animal practice serving Staffordshire and the surrounding counties in the Midlands, with sites in Eccleshall, Gnosall, Stoke on Trent, Stone & Stafford.

Our small animal, Large animal & equine departments run separately from each other and we have designated teams at each of our practices. All of our practices are individuals but two important things bring us together; a commitment to excellence in everything we do.

Our largest site is our Stone practice which is a busy, purpose built practice offering a varied and exciting caseload. The practice is well equipped with Laparoscopy, ultrasound, flexible endoscopy, Ophthalmic surgical microscope, dental x-ray, in house lab and much more. Our Stafford & Eccleshall practices were also refurbished in 2018/2019 offering light and spacious working environments with ultrasound, digital xray, operating theatres, lab machines & separate dog/cat wards.

As a small animal Vet Surgeon at Shires Vets your working weeks will offer a good variety of consultations and surgeries. Case continuity is important to us where possible.

•    Full and part time applications considered.
•    4 days per week (10 hour days)
•    One late night (2-11pm) every 3 weeks
•    approximately 1 in 4 weekends (Lieu time given for all weekend work)

Benefit of no middle of the night calls but excellent exposure to emergency and critical care cases during late night and weekend shifts.

Our varied and advanced caseload means we can support certificates and interests and would be keen to talk to you about your professional goals! We currently have 4 medicine cert holders, 1 surgical cert holder and 1 ophthalmology cert holder and advanced veterinary practitioner. We also have two further surgeons studying towards imaging and surgery certificates.

We also have a growing orthopaedics caseload. This position would suit candidates wishing for support with working towards or completed a certificate.

If you are looking for a caseload that offers something a little different, then we do have a small exotics caseload including tortoises, degu, chinchillas and more. We also even care for the odd chicken!

The Shires team members are all animal-owners and take pride in providing a caring, compassionate, and friendly service to all our clients and their precious pets. The team have high clinical standards and everyone is striving for clinical excellence.

We all support each other and often discuss clinical cases. Our Vet teams are supported by experienced and dedicated RVN’s and a wonderful front of house team.

The ideal candidate for the role will be a Veterinary Surgeon who feels comfortable with routine procedures and we are happy to support with more advanced procedures.

•    Salary £30,000 - £45,000 dependent on experience.
