The Role

We have a rare opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our team here at Ashleigh Vets. We are a busy practice which sees an incredible number of cases ranging from the simple to the more complex, and we also see a lot of exotic patients. This role provides a strong foundation in the basics of building a relationship with clients, consulting and providing sound clinical advice, as well as gold standard inpatient care and a firm foundation in emergency medicine, and routine and emergency surgeries. You will be working alongside experienced vets during the day, with plenty of people to ask for help and advice. We will consider applications from both experienced vets or a new graduates as Additional training will also be given – not just in the clinical work, but client management too. The out of hours work complements the day work to give a good basis of inpatient care and emergencies. More experienced staff are always on back up, so you are not “on your own”. Salary up to £40,000 DOE

The shift pattern is:

Week 1: Mon- Fri 8am to 4pm, sat/sun 11am to 7pm
Week 2: Mon/Tues off, Wed-Fri 8am to 4pm, Sat/Sun 7pm to 9am
Week 3: Mon-Fri 7pm to 8am, Sat/Sun off
Week 4:  Mon-Fri off, Sat/Sun off (full week off)

When working out of hour shifts you work with an auxiliary nurse, with an RVN and experienced Vet Surgeon second on call.

About Us

Ashleigh vets has been proudly caring for the pets of south Manchester for the last 50 years and is fortunate to have a lovely client base and good reputation. With easy access to airports, motorways, the city centre and countryside; it’s an ideal location. Well equipped with usual toys (digital x-rays, video endoscope, ultrasound) we can cater for most patient’s needs. We pride ourselves on giving honest advice to clients and never work in a target driven way.

Here at Ashleigh, we are lucky enough to have a really wonderful team. Everyone looks out for each other and has each other’s back, which makes a good atmosphere. Meet ups outside of work were commonplace when we were allowed! And I’m sure they will restart, once we can. We are keen to encourage a good work/life balance and do what we can to support our staff in this way.

Company

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has been a veterinary practice since 1963. For the first twenty-five years Ian McKinlay MRCVS and his wife, Susan, ran the practice together. Since Ian’s retirement 1987 Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has been owned and managed by Aidan Raftery and Bernard Wynne.

In December 2007 Matt Saunby became a third owner of the practice. The practice has now grown to employ five veterinary surgeons, ten qualified veterinary nurses, three auxiliary veterinary nurses and a practice manager .

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre now occupies the whole building, as well as a purpose built extension to the rear. As a larger practice we are able to maintain the high level of equipment and facilities needed to provide the best modern treatment for the well-being and comfort of your pet.

Our high standards have allowed us to attract caring and skilled vets and nurses who wish to work in a challenging and friendly environment. The practice has been approved as having the facilities needed for qualified veterinary surgeon specialist level. Advanced qualifications have been obtained in Canine and Feline Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery by veterinary surgeons working at Ashleigh Veterinary Centre.

Commitment to Continuing Education
Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has over the years proved successful in training many Veterinary Nurses to qualification level, and as an approved nurse training centre (R.C.V.S. approved) has been actively involved in the V.N. course. Several of our nurses have obtained advanced nursing qualifications.

Over the last ten years the Practice has expanded, its Cat and Dog medicine and surgery, with the addition of a Cattery and the development of specialist skills in the treatment of “Exotics” we are now able to offer all our clients a comprehensive veterinary service.
