Job Summary:

The role of the Theatre Nurse Lead is to support the theatre team made up of Nurses and Technicians, there are a number of clinical aspects to the role, including anaesthesia, ensuring SOPs are written, updated and adhered to and that clinical standards are maintained. The TNL is also responsible for ensuring that the rotating SVNs are getting the support and training that they require when completing their theatre rotations and to support with the individual training plans of the theatre team members. The TNL will also be required to carry out the role of Theatre Manager in the absence of the TM.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure clinical standards in the theatres are maintained and improved. This will involve joining the infection control committee, designing and implementing clinical SOP’s and auditing clinical cases for infection control.
  • Be responsible for training or allocation of training of new staff and Student Nurses in clinical surgical nursing and anaesthesia.
  • Provide surgical theatre nursing, alongside the theatre team for the disciplines of; soft tissue, orthopaedics, neurology, ophthalmology and cardiac surgery.
  • Ensuring case logs in theatre are maintained and training is given for accurate record keeping.
  • Be responsible for company reps that are providing clinical services and distribute information accordingly.
  • Involvement in planning and development of planned theatre improvements.
  • Provide anaesthesia services under the supervision of our Anaesthesia department and be the main liaison between clinical nursing and anaesthesia.
  • Work closely with the TM in allocation of Nurses and anaesthesia services for the daily theatre schedule and out of hours service.
  • Actively promote and champion DWR’s core values; displaying the behaviours you expect from others.
  • Continue to maintain and develop your own professional knowledge and skills in line with the mandatory RCVS registration CPD requirements
  • Maintain effective and professional colleague relationships.
  • Work with appropriate people/teams to find solutions and speedily and effectively resolve issues and concerns raised.
  • Lead by example ensuring a professional and positive attitude is always maintained.
  • Promote Health and Safety policies and practices, ensuring compliance is always maintained.

Successful Candidate:

The successful candidate will be a RVN, ideally holding a relatable advanced qualification, with prior experience working in theatre within a referral setting. Confidence in anaesthesia with the ability to support others is desirable, along with previous experience of coaching and mentoring. This is a full-time position, working a 40-hour week – daily hours will vary depending on business needs; however, we expect the 40 hours to fall between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday. Participation in the on call rota will also be required so the successful candidate will need to be within a 45 minute commute of DWR.
