Veterinary Surgeon (Ambulatory Practice) required at Pool House Equine Clinic, Fradley, Staffordshire

The Role
We are currently looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team at Pool House Equine Clinic in Fradley, Staffordshire. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week with approximately one week of duties in every six weeks. This comprises of one night duty 4.30pm - 9.00 am on call (rarely get calls after dark) and no daytime work during duty week which is then followed by a long weekend off and approximately five weeks with no out of hours. The salary for this role is £34k-£50k per annum dependent on previous experience.
You will be working independently visiting our lovely clients whilst drawing on the help and support of more senior members of our team if needed. This position is largely ambulatory (although there will be an opportunity to follow cases within the hospital), however you will be well supported with mobile radiography / ultrasonography etc. We are an associate teaching practice of Nottingham University which gives access to support from senior University clinicians as well. There is a tremendous range of clients from large private yards to livery stables all situated in the beautiful Staffordshire and Derbyshire Countryside.

About Us
Our Equine Clinic has 4 operating theatres (two standing including a specific dental theatre and two full theatres including a colic theatre). There are three digital X ray systems, ultrasound and MRI and there is stabling for up to 30 horses.
Pool House is the largest equine practice in the midlands with approximately 8,500 visits are made every year. All classes of horse are cared for, including several local racehorse training yards. We have laser surgery, cryosurgery unit, arthroscope, shock wave machine, PENS treatment for head shaking, 3m digital gastroscope and two 1.4m fibreoptic endoscopes. We have a good in-house laboratory. The practice also provides Veterinary cover to Uttoxeter, Wolverhampton, Haydock and Aintree racecourses. Clinical records are fully computerised, and the Equine Clinic is supported by eight office/secretarial staff, two technicians, two Registered Veterinary Nurses and eight grooms.

The equine veterinary team consists of seventeen full time Veterinary Surgeons. Within this are four interns, three residents, as well as the ambulatory team. We have two European Diplomats in Equine Surgery in charge of the surgical and fertility services, and a European Specialist in equine dentistry. There are seven RCVS certificate holders, and we also have a Medicine Specialist 3 days per week and a part time imaging specialist.

About the Team and Culture
In addition to our role as an Associate teaching practice we are extremely proud of our record in the field of Continued Professional Development. Currently several of our Veterinary Surgeons are studying for the new RCVS Cert AVP. We actively encourage Veterinary Surgeons to engage in taking an RCVS certificate, have a thriving internship scheme, have developed multiple residencies in association with Glasgow and Nottingham Universities. We can claim to have trained dozens of RCVS certificate holders. We are also very much part of our local community - supporting village shows, major civic events such as the Sheriff's Ride. We have a 34-panel solar energy array and generate our heating and hot water from air source heat pumps.
