Surgical Intern / Assistant Position

We have an opportunity for an RCVS registered, recent graduate to work as an intern / surgical assistant in a busy, single discipline referral centre alongside specialist and experienced referral surgeons in orthopaedics and spinal surgery. 

The referral practice shares facilities with a busy small animal practice with its associated full range of medical and surgical cases. The practice is RCVS hospital standard and includes two positive pressure dedicated referral theatres, two radiography rooms and in house 16 slice CT scanner. We have weekly on site MRI scanning visits.

The position is initially offered for a fixed 12month period from October/November 2021

Duties will involve assisting the referral surgeons in diagnostic and surgical management of referred cases and a key role in the peri-operative care of patients to maximise the efficiency of case throughput and the effectiveness of patient care. You will work closely and under the supervision of the surgeons and will gain experience in all aspects of a busy referral caseload. It is envisaged that your time will be largely spent in preparation areas, wards, diagnostic imaging and theatres. 

It is hoped that this will provide relevant experience and enthusiasm for onward career development in orthopaedics but this is not a position offering formal accredited training for specific qualifications. 

Salary in the region of £32K depending on experience plus up to £1000 CPD/year 

There is an entitlement to 25 days paid annual leave in addition to public holidays, all on a pro rata basis. Weekend and OOH duties are shared equally within the team of interns.
