The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-driven farm vet with 1-2 years’ experience and a strong desire to deliver preventative health care services to our clients. We are predominantly a dairy practice but also deliver beef and flock health planning.

Day to Day duties involve routine fertility scanning visits, AHDB mobility mentoring, AHDB Mastitis control planning. Bull and Ram fertility testing, flock health clubs and WEC. We have 4 ATT/vet techs who carry out the bulk of TB testing however a small amount will still be expected of the successful candidate.

The vets work 42 hours over 4.5 days per week between 8:30am-6:30pm, with a 1:5 out of hours rota for nights and weekends.

The salary range for this role is £35,000-£45,000 depending on experience.

About Us
We have two sites set in rural Staffordshire on the edge of the peak district, in the heart of the Midlands. Great links to the rest of the country, allowing easy and quick links to the major cities in all parts of the UK. The delights of the Peak district are on our doorstep so you can spend time unwinding in the beautiful countryside. Many of our staff enjoy walking, horse riding, canoeing and biking in these areas.

The Farm department has a separate management office and forms part of the larger vet team of small animal and mixed vets. We have a very friendly, close-knit supportive team with a range of experience from 1-15 yrs. IVC has farm practices in Europe and when covid rules relax there will be opportunity to take part in practice exchanges with farm vets in Holland!

We have a range of equipment to support you in your role; 3 Easiscan scanners plus a new easy scan go with Bluetooth to phones and tablets to support independent development of farm animal ultrasound skills. This includes rectal /pregnancy scanning, calf lung scanning, bull and ram fertility equipment and an in house mastatest machine for milk bacteriology.
We have our own in-house laboratory with modern idexx equipment enabling us to do our own downer cow and energy profiles. We also provide in house WEC counts and drench testing as part of flock health plans to sheep clients. We use Totalvet and Interherd plus software to analyse herd data and create Health reports, along with MyHealthyherd planning programmes to produce Redtractor compliant and Action Johnes health plans.

You will be provided with a work van or car and an Android tablet to record clinical notes and billing on site using the vetimpress system. These are linked to label printers in cars for efficient labelling of medicines and to comply with RCVS Practice standards of recording batch numbers and dispensing. All vehicles have medicine storage cool boxes and temperature recording devices to ensure we carry medicines correctly.

About the Team and Culture
We are a team of 7FTE farm vets within a mixed practice team of 20 vets including 4 ATT/vet techs. We have one vet with advanced practitioner status in flock health and we support and encourage further academic development and leadership skills. We actively Support the local YFC and provide YFC and farmer training courses! We also support the NFU and Agricultural societies with sponsorship and support in judging competitions. We have a close relationship with our local High School, attending careers open days and allowing students work experience. The School has a small farm and we run an after-school club weekly during term time to support the BTech curriculum and provide careers advice. Within IVC our Clinical Director sits on the Farm board, our other vets are part of working clinical groups and the younger vet network board, meaning there is plenty of opportunity to contribute to the wider network and develop a different skill set.

Applicant Requirements
The ideal candidate will hold a veterinary degree, be MRCVS registered and hold a driving licence. A few years of experience of farm work in the UK is essential with an expectation to be competent to cover out of hours emergencies.
