Job Details

We are searching for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our wonderful Wheelie family on a part time basis. This is a flexible part-time role of 26 hours per week including a 1:5 weekend rotation. An example rota could be 3 days Monday – Friday at Chalfont St Giles or Beaconsfield plus the 1:5 weekends at Chesham. This could be discussed at interview if there are specific hours required for the right candidate. Saturday and Sunday after-hours on call are covered by an external out of hours provider. The out of hours cover is currently very minimal being an evening on call until 9pm Mon – Fri.

We like to start our day how we intend it to finish, organised. We hold a ward rounds in the morning, which consists of the clinical team discussing the plan for the day and any hospital inpatients they may have. This is great way of sharing information with the team giving time for professional discussion. Our nurses are designated areas to work prior to the day so they are aware of what their responsibilities will be. We do work very closely as a team to ensure we support each other during the day. The Wheelhouse are very proud of their nurses and encourage them to use all their skills and knowledge across all aspects of the role. We have the opportunity to work in theatre, wards and take part in nurse clinics and training the next generation of nurses.

We are a fully equipped and modernised RCVS accredited practice striving to achieve the highest standard of care in South Buckinghamshire. We have surgeries in Chesham, Chalfont St Giles, Amersham and Beaconsfield.

As a practice we strongly believe in providing our team members with a nurturing and caring environment. We actively encourage and fully support team members’ professional ambitions by providing opportunities to develop with regular funded CPD. The excellent care and service that we provide to our clients and their pets is very important to us. A big part of being able to provide this is through ensuring that our team are fully equipped with all the tools that they need, working in the best possible surroundings.

Across our 4 sites we have 13 vets, 22 Veterinary Nurses including Student Veterinary Nurses, 13 Veterinary Receptionists and 5 fantastic support team members. We have lots of members of the veterinary team either engaged in or achieved certificates in oncology, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, dentistry, anaesthesia, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, small animal medicine, feline medicine, and dermatology. We also have members of the team with special interest in animal behaviour and dog training and of course wellbeing. As a practice we actively support a number of different charities both locally and nationally each year including StreetVet, Marjorie Nash Cat Rescue and Macmillan Cancer Support.

We have a committed clinical team with many vets and nurses holding or engaged in postgraduate qualifications as the practice combines first opinion with an internal referral service. Responsibility and specialism are strongly encouraged in order to develop further opportunities and skills to the practice and personally. We have a strong focus on job satisfaction with a number of employee perks.

The successful candidate will require competence and confidence in all areas of nursing in a primary care practice. They would also need to be kind, considerate, positive, and happy to use their initiative. We would like to pride ourselves on being forward thinking and maintaining a high standard of veterinary care.
