Job Details

Meopham photo 2We are looking for an experienced clinician to lead the night service, and two further EEC vets to take the reins of our newly dedicated OOH service. Have the opportunity from the beginning to shape its development and make sure we can offer the very best service possible, both for our clinicians and our clients.

Who are we?

We are an independent small animal practice established in 1996 based in Meopham. We have three sister sites in Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Swanscombe, but our OOH service is run from our RCVS accredited hospital in Meopham. We have a great reputation and see a wide variety of first opinion and referral cases. We are a modern hospital with 16 vets with 8 certificates between us, including 3 surgery certificate holders, 2 in diagnostic imaging, and 1 in ophthalmology, medicine and ECC.  We have access to the best facilities including CT, DR radiography, doppler ultrasound, endoscopy (including paediatric bronchoscopy), multiparameter monitors, syringe drivers, blood gas and coagulation analysers. Everything you need to provide great ECC care.

Meopham phot 1We have a culture of listening; your input and ideas really matter here.  Currently our out of hours service is shared between our day vets, but we listened, and felt that we could provide a better service for everyone by having a dedicated night team. We believe in evidence-based medicine and are constantly reviewing what we do and are always striving for the best. We’re a really sociable bunch and enjoy getting together outside of work, the practice funding some of these events. We also run clinical clubs every Thursday morning. We have low staff turnover, and generally don’t have the need for locums. EMS students and visitors to the practice comment on how well all areas of the team get on; nobody is too busy or too important to stop and help. We love teaching and are an approved practice, facilitating IMR training for students on rotation from the University of Surrey.

About the role

We only provided OOH cover for our own clinics, so you are not managing transfers from external practices. We have a manageable case load, and you will have the time and the facilities to care for your cases to the best of your abilities.  Overnight you will also have the support of an RVN and a veterinary care assistant. A comprehensive handover will take place at the beginning and end of your shift.

The rota is 7 nights on 14 days off: 7pm to 8am.

Meopham photo 3To lead the team, we are looking for an experienced ECC clinician who has a passion for ECC work, who has worked in a variety of clinics and can see the potential of the service and is keen to have their input to how the OOHs are run.  They need to be a great communicator and have an empathic leadership style, someone who is happy to support and guide their ECC colleagues. Ideally the further two ECC colleagues would have some OOH’s experience but could be suitable for a clinician with some day experience wishing to move into an ECC role.

The package

The salary is £50,000-£70,000 depending on experience

CPD and training is very important to us. If you haven’t experienced working with a CT or blood gas machines for example, don’t let that be a barrier, we will support your training and development in these and other areas. CPD allowance is 4 days and £500, but we are happy to support particular courses above this, for example one of our clinicians undertook a TPLO course in America and we were happy to fund all the costs involved. We are also keen to support certificates with up to £3000- and 10-days CPD.

A modern two-bedroom house is also available if needed.

Holiday entitlement is equivalent to 13.1 shifts for the year, each shift being 13 hours.

A relocation package is available and we may be able offer visa sponsorship.

Meopham is a great area to live; there is a direct train to London Victoria which takes 35mins, nearby Ebbsfleet International will whisk you to London St Pancras in 19 minutes, or give you access to straight to Europe. You can drive down to the Kent coast in an hour. There are great connections to the M20, M25 and A2/M2. The surrounding countryside is gorgeous, and there are ample sports clubs nearby including rugby, hockey, cricket and sailing. Gatwick is 45 minutes away.

Company

As a practice it is our mission to provide compassionate, high quality care for our patients on a continuous basis. As an RCVS certified Veterinary Hospital, our nursing staff are on site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to care for in-patients. This means that if your pet is ever admitted to the hospital, he or she will never be alone during their stay with us.

We are one of very few practices in North Kent to provide our own out of hours service, on site, by our own staff, with access to your pets full clinical notes.  We always have a vet and nurse available to answer your queries and see your pet, if necessary, any time day, night or bank holidays.

We are conveniently located on the A227 with easy access to the M20/M26/M25 and A2/M2 motorways and are only 15 minutes by car to Gravesend.

We also have three sister practices, The Tonbridge Veterinary surgery, The Sevenoaks Veterinary Surgery and The Swanscombe Veterinary Surgery. Each branch is backed up by the latest technologies with access to your pets’ full medical records. We are also able to transport patients between branches by way of our practice vehicles.
