Veterinary Surgeon - Full Time or Part Time - Salary banding £31,000-£55,000-Lincoln South Vets4Pets

Job Description
David & Lucy Bull, practice partners at Vets4Pets Lincoln are looking for a vet to join their team.  Read on to understand whether this role sounds like a great fit for you.

“We work hard to create an environment where everyone can perform at their best.  We’re very protective of our team; their welfare is important to us, so we decided on a basic set of principles to move forward with.  As standard, we run 15 minute consults and schedule regular ‘block outs’ to facilitate consults running to time, giving room for more complicated consults to over-run a bit, as well as extra moments to catch up with admin, calls etc.  We routinely book 30 minute appointments for first vaccinations, planned blood samples and euthanasia. Our diary is structured to try to ensure everyone gets a lunch break (1 hour); final morning consults are scheduled to finish 30 minutes before lunch to support this approach (with the same applying to consults at the end of your working day to enable you to finish on time).  Overtime is exactly that; if our team don’t manage to take a lunch break or finish late due to extra caseload, we’ll pay – This applies across the team, including our vets.

It’s important to us that everyone has a voice and contributes in all aspects of life at the practice, so we aim for daily huddles where the whole team can get together and raise any concerns and/or share information.  All colleagues are encouraged to add any points they wish to raise to the agenda for this meeting each day. We feel this works well for us as we’re able to address and respond to any queries promptly and ensure that thoughts and ideas are shared.

There is no obvious hierarchy in our team, we all work together really well and aim for exceptional standards of patient care. We are an RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accredited General Practice, opened in 2014.  Overall our team comprises of 13 colleagues and clinically, we have a strong, experienced blend of part and full time vets (4) and nurses (5).  David and Lucy graduated in 2007, David has an RCVS certificate in General Small Animal Surgery and is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery. Another of our vets is currently studying for an RCVS certificate whilst our nurses all have their own specific interests.

Our client base is largely made up of dogs and cats and we see some small furries including rabbits, guinea pigs and rodents.  We do not routinely see birds and reptiles. Assistant vets are not expected to do any OV work. The practice has 3 consult rooms, a separate theatre and prep area.  Using a dental x-ray is standard procedure for us and we have an ultrasound, digital x-ray, electrocautery, suction, blood pressure monitor, tonometer, ECG, capnography and a pulse oximeter.

Full time vets work a 4 day week and share a rota of 1 in 3 Saturdays, which averages out as 40 hours per week. Our out of hours and inpatient care are covered by Vets Now. We are looking to cover full time hours, but would welcome contact from anyone looking for part time work as we could also look at shifts flexibly to split these hours between more than one applicant. We allocate £1,500 and 35 paid hours of CPD for our vets and we’re happy to consider funding a certificate for the right vet. CPD hours and budget is calculated pro rata for colleagues working part time as we like to keep things fair. New and recent graduates would also have the option of joining the Vets4Pets Graduate Development Programme.

We’d like to find a vet who shares our passion for delivering the very best care for our patients.  Someone who is confident in their abilities and happy to share their expertise; someone who is proactive in their approach and thrives in a team environment.”

Locally owned practices with a world of support

At Vets for Pets we’re a network of practices that are owned and managed by the practice owners that run them. Because they’re locally owned, each practice has the freedom to serve patients and clients the way it thinks is best.

But crucially, being locally-owned also means enjoying a truly team-spirited atmosphere. We want all our colleagues to build lasting relationships with practice owners and team members as well as patients and clients.

And because we’re also part of a wider group, you’ll get all the support you need when you need it. That means state-of-the-art facilities, high quality CPD, financial stability and a real sense of job security.

With our framework, we’ve made it simpler and easier for you to help patients and clients live happier, healthier lives together. It’s about making the most of your expertise and bringing this to life in practise while being safe in the knowledge that you’re looked after too. Simply put, we offer locally owned practices with a world of support.

Flexibility & Wellbeing
You tell us which hours you want to work, and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. With us, you could enjoy a better work-life balance where flexibility and wellbeing come first.

Training & Development
We offer great training programmes, plus fully funded CPD, leadership courses and access to our group’s learning curriculum. We’ll also support you if you’re interested in owning a practice. With our wealth of resources, it’s easy to build your skills and develop your career.

Local Practices
With us, no two practices are the same. We’re deeply rooted in our local communities and we want you to really get to know your patients and clients locally.

Being part of the Pets At Home Group
Being part of Vets for Pets means you’ll be part of our network of locally owned practices. Our practices are located across the country and are owned and run by our Joint Venture Partners (JVPs). Our Joint Venture Partnership model is unique and gives everyone the best of both worlds. Working within one of our practices you’ll get to work with the JVP who has the clinical freedom and autonomy to do things their own way.

As we’re part of a large respected organisation you’ll also enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider PLC Group. This means we can give you greater stability and job security during these uncertain times and beyond.

What’s more, we’ve worked hard to make sure everyone in our group can take part in a fun, friendly, professional and inclusive culture that allows you to bring your whole self to work and be at your very best.
