Registered Veterinary Nurse required at Lincvet, Friars Lane, Lincoln, Lincolnshire

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to come and join our team here at Lincvet, Lincoln. This is a varied role in a solid GP practice. We think nurses should be utilised as the professionals they are, and we are currently actively developing our nursing team to take on more consulting responsibility, training and supporting them to start their own procedures under schedule 3. We have a lovely team atmosphere, not broken by the stresses and strains of the last 18months. We are a training practice, which we love, as we feel that having student nurses helps us to maintain a learning culture and helps us all to develop our skills and remain current!

Our nurse role involves: consulting, supporting the consulting vet, anaesthesia and surgical prep, radiography, care of inpatients and post-operative care, occasional reception duties at busy times or as cover and maintaining clinical areas with cleaning regimes.

Pay £11.08 per hour, where a candidate can bring additional skills, a higher salary can be considered.

About Us

We are a Veterinary Practice that wants to do GP work well. We believe in treating each case individually to get the best outcome for patient and client. We have three sites, one operating and consulting and two consulting only. We have two vets at our Friars Lane surgery with our other branches being sole charge.

We do provide basic out of hours care for patients, where appropriate, with an on-call nurse carrying out 6 hourly checks supported by a named Veterinary Surgeon. Our phones are diverted to VetsNow from 7pm to 8am weekdays and from 4pm Saturday until 8am Monday. We are not open on Bank Holidays, however admitted patients may be present so we do have an on call rota for these days.

We have good anaesthetic monitoring with two multi parameter monitors for use with all anaesthetics if needed, the ever-vocal drip pumps, syringe driver, blood pressure monitors, CR, ultrasound and are waiting to install our dental radiography. We have separate cat and dog wards and contingencies for managing our small furry patients to reduce stress.

Our main site is in central Lincoln, ideally placed for a lovely walk into town on lunch and very accessible for travel. Whilst we have parking on site, several of our nursing staff cycle in. We have a room on site for nurses that would prefer to stay if on call for an inpatient and a large staff room with TV.

About the Team and Culture

We are a friendly team with a real family feel. We may not be perfect, but we are pretty damn close (in our opinion!) and we get fantastic feedback from attending students and leavers. Christmas is a good example of this, with Christmas Jumper week, oodles of cheer and buffet lunches (bring and share style!). Last year, as we couldn't do this, Christmas Scrub tops were supplied to keep a covid friendly level of Christmas cheer!

Our team comprises of 8 Veterinary Surgeons, supported by 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 2 Student Veterinary Nurses, 1 Veterinary Care Assistant and 7 Receptionists. We also have an Ambulance Driver, Administrator and Practice Manager as part of our team based at our Friars Lane branch.

We have three certificate holders (one CertAVP, one surgical and one medical certificate holder) and two Veterinary Surgeons imminently taking their internal medicine certificate assessment in October! As a Practice we actively encourage development and further training within our team and we are open to diploma studies where there is an interest.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you may be recently qualified, wanting to return after a career break or just looking for something new. As a training practice, clinical coaching experience is a bonus, but not essential. We would like to develop and grow the surgical side of the practice with our nursing team, so experience of performing Schedule 3 procedures is also highly desirable. However, we are looking for a candidate who can come and join us as an integral part of the team, candidates looking for a genuinely friendly and supportive environment are encouraged to apply! Sense of humour is essential; baking proficiency is not. We all love cake, but it’s not really a good indicator of a workplace’s morale.
