The Role
We have had a busy 2 years, firstly winning Petplan Practice of the Year 2019 and secondly moving into our amazing new building right before lockdown. You would be joining us at a very exciting time for the practice, as we begin to come out of lockdown (hopefully) and start to be able to enjoy and show off the fabulous facilities that we now have.

We truly value our staff and have been doing all we can to protect them during the COVID-19 situation. We are still currently working with no clients in the building (except for euthanasia) to protect as many as possible, but are working towards allowing clients back in.

We could tell you all sorts about our practice – and if you look on our website you will get a much better idea of what we are about - but we think it can be best described by one of our team:

"Blue House is a fantastic place to work - the environment is friendly, caring, and patient-driven. This ethos starts at the top with Kay and Neil (the bosses) and is carried on by all team members. I personally love the fact that I have bosses who actively encourage, support, and genuinely care for me as an individual.

The nursing teamwork is almost entirely in the surgical/medical wing, allowing us to exclusively nurse and utilise our training and skill set.
Taking blood, placing IV cannulas, assisting with surgery, and performing schedule 3 procedures are all encouraged, as is CPD.

We are trusted to do the job we trained for, and the RVN / surgeon relationships are relaxed, fun, and friendly, with open clinical discussions. Our opinion is valued and any good and actionable suggestions are implemented.

Blue House really is a great practice, and I certainly never have any intention of leaving!” - Joel, Head Nurse

We are more than happy for you to speak to any staff members past or present to find out what it is like to work for us!

About the Team and Culture
Our nursing team has a variety of interests and experience including exotics (our head nurse has an exotics certificate), wound management, anesthesia, and nutrition. We like to support learning, development, and CPD.

One of our vets has a PGCert in surgery, one provides acupuncture, another is just starting his ophthalmology certificate, and our vets have a wide range of experience from our recent new graduate addition to over 20 years experience! We are innovative, caring, and listen to our team.

We are a cohesive and supportive team - whether brainstorming on how we can help a patient, celebrating our successes, or understanding when things are tough. We value and listen to the opinions and experiences of all our team members. Our clinical meetings allow everyone to have an input and we act on what we discuss.

We like to involve ourselves in the local community and have taken part in mud runs to raise funds for a local mental health unit and Vetlife. We also visit local schools and one of the directors is a STEM ambassador helping promote the sciences and supporting schools and community groups. We are a host practice for Pet Blood Bank.

Applicant Requirements
We are looking for a qualified RVN who has empathy with clients and their pets and a desire to use their nursing skills. The ability to communicate effectively with both clients and staff is vital. We value teamwork and appreciate the staff taking part in case discussions and contributing ideas to improve our practice.

We want someone who enjoys talking to clients and who can provide clear, sympathetic, and useful advice when needed.

We need a nurse who can work effectively both in a team and on their own initiative. We love and value experience but can also support and guide a newly qualified nurse.
