The Role

Do you like being a Registered Veterinary Nurse? Are you looking for a position where you can be your absolute best and have a good day every day? Do you like people (including clients!), handling grumpy cats and tired old dogs, as well as looking after all those lovely puppies and kittens? Are you tired of being treated badly and want to be somewhere where you are valued, listened to and the managers care? If the answer is yes, then look no further!

The Neighbourhood Vet is looking for a couple of fabulous Registered Veterinary Nurses to fit in with our friendly team and if any of the above resonates with you, then maybe we will be a good fit?

Rota

5 weekdays (Monday - Friday) 2 x 8-hour & 3 x 7-hour shifts = 37 hours per week
1 in 6 Saturdays: 8:30am-3:00pm
1 in 6 Saturdays: 9:00am-7:00pm
1 in 6 Sundays: 9:00am-7:00pm
To clarify this means working every third weekend; one weekend a ‘short’ Saturday and the following an ‘extended’ Saturday and Sunday. We give you a day off (8 hours) in lieu of the week after you have worked a Sunday so all this averages to 40 hours per week.

About Us

The Neighbourhood Vet started as a single vet practice in East Dulwich almost 10 years ago and we have now grown to have 3 practices with 16 Veterinary Surgeons, 10 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 6 Veterinary Care Assistants/Students and 16 Veterinary Reception/ Administration staff. We are a close team who are welcoming and not intimidating and who all enjoy working to a high standard. We have lovely facilities and buildings, and all the usual good toys.

But that's not why you should work here - although a lot of people talk about ‘stuff’ being the most important thing, we know it’s not, it is our people that are! And we have grown our practice by focussing on looking after each other, then pets, then clients.
So what can you expect from us?

Well firstly, you can expect an excellent standard of care. For example, for every anaesthetic, we use the best drugs (only sevoflurane gas) and everything has an IV placed and gets fluids. We use a range of anaesthetic monitors, we manually chart, we supervise, we train, we record incidents, and we review our practice and process in a supportive way. So, we provide the safest care for our patients, which hopefully means the least stress for everyone.

You can also expect a friendly, welcoming, and open culture from top to bottom. We want humble, kind teammates, who enjoy their work, and can have a laugh! We are not perfect, we want to continue to all learn, grow and be better and be always supportive and compassionate.
You can also expect support and continued education/ on-the-job training, mentoring and lots of on-going (and often free!) CPD. There are added perks like your birthday off. All our staff work 1 in 3 weekends and if working a Sunday, you get a day off in lieu the following week. We offer London Living Wage to students and a salary of up to around £32k depending on experience.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking first and foremost for someone who “gets” what we are trying to achieve and can fit into our team culture and values. We would like someone with confidence in their own abilities which translates into best pet care. We want someone who can work in a busy, sometimes high-pressure environment, can manage time and priorities, and get the work done each day. We want someone who can have a laugh (and sometimes a cry!) with the team.
We are ideally looking for Registered Veterinary Nurses but would consider students who have completed at least one year of training.

Company

Our practice was a derelict former art gallery before we made it what it is today.

When Amber and Suzanne looked around the premises in 2011, they saw something not a lot of others did. They were faced with a large, damp and derelict building that they believed they could turn into an impressive veterinary practice; they were right.

A considerable amount of planning, re-structuring, tender love and care went in to making our practice what it is today.

Today our clients are surprised when they hear how our practice began its existence. With a comfortable and spacious waiting area, dedicated surgery, x-ray room, 3 consulting rooms and separate wards for dogs and cats, it’s hard to believe the building we’re all so proud of was once about to be condemned.

We decided upon our name (after much consideration!) because we want to be part of the neighbourhood and community. We think it is important that clients can feel they can drop in to talk to us.

We understand that many people and their animals dislike the whole experience of going to the vet, however we think things can be different. At The Neighbourhood Vet, we want clients and pets to be happy and we have created a practice which we hope will ensure a positive experience.

Whilst we think our building is really lovely and an important part of practice, our staff are what makes The Neighbourhood Vet what it is. Without our team of passionate, experienced animal lovers, we wouldn’t be able to offer the unrivalled services we provide today.

We have a happy, stimulating work environment so our staff can work to the best of their abilities. We also ensure staff undertake regular courses and training to improve their knowledge and retain their interest in their work.

Our practice has a wonderful setting across the road from Peckham Rye Park; we also have ample parking for our guests. When you visit us, simply look out for our big yellow sign!
